The outdoors seem to follow you everywhere. Friends bombard your Instagram feed with their #Ilovehiking pictures and the offers to have a picnic or visit the beach seem endless. Nature even seems to follow you in your dating life -- long walks on the beach, anyone? While venturing into the outdoors seems like a wholesome, healthy idea, here are a few reasons why going outside is the absolute worst.
First of all, it's just so uncomfortable! For some odd reason, every single outdoor experience has some detrimental downside. Bug bites, sun burns, frigid weather and wet socks are bound to ruin whatever twisted appreciation you held for the wilderness. You always have to reapply whatever bug spray or sunscreen you've brought along, and no matter how thick your jacket, it won't keep the rain out.
Second, the outdoors are far too wild and unpredictable. At any second there is a 100 percent chance that you'll be attacked by a vicious grizzly bear, mountain lion or treacherous squirrel. If the various beasts of the woods don't get you, then the vegetation surely will. Poison oak could attack your unsuspecting ankles as you walk. A vine could whack you across the face. A tree root could cause you to trip and tumble down a trail. The possible tragedies are endless. Some argue that going outside is "beneficial" to your physical and mental wellness, but honestly the threat of crossing paths with a rogue squirrel simply isn't worth the risk.
Finally, it's a well-known truth that anytime you go outside you must post a picture of it on social media. No exceptions. This entails getting into a like-worthy pose, finding some nice selfie light, and, worst of all, coming up with a decent caption. Who has the time or energy for that? With all of these totally reasonable factors on your mind, why would you ever leave the safety of the indoors?
