My personal motto has always been to look out for yourself, because in the end no one ultimately understands what you truly want. Creating the image of having a simple temporary happiness is more reliant in not getting hurt in the long run. As much as people deny it, people change which causes things to change. You let down your guard as soon as the walls start coming down. Sure, things may seem well or you may get tired of trying so you plan to simply settle, however, this creates the notion in your head that you will be accepting of the “good enough” instead of being the “best”. Always striving to have the best for you should be the ultimate goal.

Being safe and comfortable sounds the most comforting, but is it such a bad thing to want more out of life? Creating new goals and going through different personal experiences is what makes everything worthwhile. Going out of your comfort zone to fulfill your capabilities and living to the full extent of your life can go further than anything you will need for full satisfaction within yourself. Life is uncertain and as most of you have seen in your daily occurrences there will always be unexpected obstacles that come your way that you will be forced to overcome. By overtaking that challenge, you are challenging yourself because you know you’re able to do better. By acquiring that mindset, you can strive for bigger goals, the good can be turned into better.

As it goes with being too comfortable with others, realize that people change too. One day they might wake up wanting one thing and wake up the morning after wanting something else. That again is life coming to bring more unexpected curves down your path. You never know anything for certain in life, including the people that will stay in your life and those who may only be temporarily there as a lesson learned.

Having the image of always moving around in a constant rush rather than settling seems uneasy at first but realize that it’s what you’re doing every day. Simple things like figuring out what you’ll have for lunch or taking a different route to work can change things from the simple norm. By changing the original, you end up getting different outcomes. Different outcomes is what you'll want to choose especially when it comes down to the people you want in your life and how you want to live that life.

The whole point to all of this is, never settle for less. Even though you may say you don’t know what you want, deep down there is something every individual needs and that is happiness. By keeping your mind open to the possibilities of reaching your utmost goal can reach your ultimate satisfaction.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
