Recently, as I'm sure you're all aware, Netflix came out with it's newest hit series called Thirteen Reasons Why. There has been a lot of hype about this new show and I've seen a lot of articles about how this show isn't something to be loved. No, it's not about roses and daisies and it doesn't involve two hopeless romantics falling in love. It's about a teenage girl's struggles throughout high school and her choice to ultimately end her life. It depicts the clear discrepancies among society about how to deal with bullying and suicide and the horrific effects.
I am one of the millions of people who decided to watch this new show and I am so thankful that I did. We all can learn so much from the story of Hannah Baker. I realize that there is a lot of controversy the series, but instead of looking at it and remembering it with a bad taste in your mouth, appreciate it. Appreciate it for what it is. And it's okay to say that you liked the show. It holds a lot of meaning and a lot of lessons. I think that even if you haven't had a chance to watch it, you know that it's not a show that will leave you smiling and feeling warm inside. It will make you seriously take a look at you life and evaluate how you're living it.
The story of Hannah Baker is a tragic one. But it is one that should be talked about. Even though this story took place on the big screen, there are so many real stories that happen behind the scenes that need more attention. Hopefully this was the start to that change we so desperately need. The truth needs to be raw and hard to watch or listen to. We need to stop brushing it off until it happens to us. We need to realize that even though this is a fictional story, the real stories are happening every day just like this one.
A show like this makes a feel raw emotion, emotions we may not feel every day of our lives. This show should be loved and appreciated, it's opening doors and raising voices.
