Why You Should Love Sunday Football Even If You Hate Football

It might be beyond boring, but on the bright side it's the best background noise to nap to.

So with my favorite season of the year, Fall, comes one of my least favorite things; professional football. My dad and brother will probably disown me after reading that statement, but it's true I really just don't like football--especially professional football and especially when I am a "fan" of one of the worst professional teams (Go Bears...). So, although I really cannot stand spending my Sundays watching football, I go to my boyfriend's apartment every Sunday and him and his two roommates outvote me on what we watch. Due to this, I decided to turn my negative view into reasons why I really should love Sunday football, and why you should, too.

1. It's the best background noise to nap to.

If you're telling me you've never fallen asleep on the couch during football on Sundays, I feel bad for you. There is just something about the voice of the announcer mixed with the faint sound of whistles and cheering that puts me right to sleep. Even as I write this article now, listening to the background noise of the TV is making my eyes heavy and my body is craving a nap.

2. An excuse to eat a bunch of dips and appetizers.

There's never a bad time for beer cheese dip, pizza, and wings. However, there is definitely a best time, and that is during sporting events. Watching football is the perfect excuse to make a bunch of appetizers and pig out, and who doesn't like that?

3. It's so boring that you might actually start your homework.

Once I go through all my forms of social media, I start to get severely bored. If I've already napped for the day, there's not much else for me to do so I typically decide to start my homework. Football actually motivates me to do homework, and that's something practically no one or thing can do, so props to you, professional football.

4. Boys in football pants, need I say more?

You glance up from your homework or wake up from your nap to see muscles and football pants--that's always a plus.

5. An excuse to buy a cute jersey/cute sports apparel.

Considering that pretty much every year, I pick who I want to win the Super Bowl by who wears the cuter jerseys, I feel that this is a big one. Football jerseys are cute and a nice hat to wear from a team with cute colors when you are having bad hair days is something I can definitely thank professional sports for.

6. Or lounge around in a big comfy jersey.

Wearing a huge jersey and wrapping yourself in a blanket on the couch is the most appealing thing in the world on a Sunday after a long weekend of wearing tight dresses and crop tops.

7. You get to hangout with your boyfriend.

He probably does a lot of things you love to do that he necessarily wouldn't want to do, so sucking it up and watching football on Sundays is the least you can do for him. It's a chance for him to do something he enjoys and a time for you two to hangout together so that's a giant plus, at least for me.

8. You can feel like you're apart of something even when you have no idea what's going on.

When everyone talks about the game the next day in class, you can chat along about the one touchdown you actually saw and feel like you're part of the crazy fan culture. Not to mention, you can pick up on some of the terms and try to impress people with all your "football knowledge"

So next time you feel angry that you are being forced to sit and watch football games from noon to ten every Sunday, remember these 8 things and hopefully that will change your attitude.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
