From July 25th to July 28th, the city of Philadelphia will be hosting a huge political convention, and no, it's not another version of the Declaration of Independence. The Democratic National Convention will be taking place in this historic city, where Hillary Clinton is expected to accept her nomination as the Democratic candidate for this year's election.
You may have already seen the schedule coming up at this website: https://www.demconvention.com/, or even seen this picture showing the big name speakers in support of Hillary at the convention:
But, if you're just a person that wants to watch the convention, and/or hear about some some interesting speeches and events from specific points of view, then here's the top three things that are going on that you might want to check out over the week. Or, for those who didn't watch or saw this article after, feel free to look at a nice summary of all that happened at the DNC this past week!
1) Celebrity Watch
I'm just gonna get this out of the way: There's TONS of celebrities that are going to be at this convention. America Ferrera & Lena Dunham, Katy Perry, Demi Lovato, Chloe Grace Moretz, Tony Goldwyn (aka President Grant), and Kareem Abdul Jabbar are some that have confirmed their appearance this week. Though I can't go to the convention due to work, I will pay someone to Facetime me President Grant and Demi Lovato in the same place.
2) Different Caucuses and Councils
There are sooo many different caucuses and councils meeting this week to talk about different issues and topics currently going on in the world. From the Black Caucus, to the LGBT Caucus, from the Native American Caucus to the Women's Caucus and the Youth Council, there's a topic for everyone to attend and listen to different speakers and discuss issues going on within our diverse population. Though most people don't actually realize these smaller events are going on, it's nice to see that there's a focus on all aspects of the Democratic Party, not just the election.
3) History In The Making
I think the most important thing going on at this convention is the person it's nominating. Though many people disagree with Hillary Clinton's ideas and her political and personal history, she is the first woman expected to accept a nomination for being Democratic nominee. Just 100 years ago, women were fighting for the right to vote here in the United States and it truly is something for her to have gone so far and be so close to possibly winning the presidency. So, even if you aren't #WithHer, you should at least acknowledge the fact that you are partaking in something that will be in the history books, or something your grand kids will ask you about some day in the future.
Well, I only have one underlying message remaining: VOTE!!!
