Why you should live life with an open mind

Everyone has grown up with a stern set of beliefs that have been instilled into them since toddlers. I am not saying this is a bad thing by any means because there are times that you need to stand up for what you believe in, and you do have your own set of values to live by, but what I learned by living with an open mind is that when challenges come your way you won’t have to fight them, but you learn new ideas from them. Instead of challenging a different set of beliefs see if you can step into the other person’s shoes and figure out where they are coming from.

I was one of those people closed in my ways standing up for everything I believed and thinking everything that differed from my beliefs wasn’t correct, but then taking classes in college that challenged my mindset and I began to settle my thoughts. I began opening my mind up to a whole new world of wisdom and seeing a bunch of different sides of things. Opening up my mind allowed me to experience changes on how I viewed the world and it was great.

I believe that people are scared to open their mind because our society makes it a bad thing to make yourself vulnerable. What I mean by this is letting your guard down to the possibility that others will realize you don’t know everything. In reality this is the best thing ever! Learning new thoughts and realizing sometimes that you have made mistakes in your thinking is exhilarating. I know I may sound like a nerd but I’m sure there are many people out there that would benefit from having an open mind. Why see a world in black and white when you can experience it in color.

Living with an open mind is so much less stressful and I promise you’ll have more fun making new experiences, and let go whatever held you back. I am a strong believer in the fact that you have to give every person an equal chance to prove their side of things or you can’t grow as a person. You live life with a tolerance of abundance and judgments from you won’t exist. A closed off mind is in my opinion a negative one and why would anyone want to live life with negativity every day. What I want everyone to do is challenge your thoughts and judgments every day looking for what the real root of them is. Always being open to hear people’s side of things is a secret on how to become a better you and a better person. Living with an open mind means you are living with an open heart in a society taught to not show your heart to anyone. Make a difference be the difference. Don’t get lost in your own little world when there is a huge one out there to experience :)

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.
