This Is The Life

Why You Should Live In A Sorority House
Lauren Wallenfels

I have lived in my sorority house for about a month now and I can honestly say it is one of the best things to ever happen to me. Living in is a once, maybe twice, in a lifetime experience. It is not an opportunity that you will get many times in your life, if at all,so if the opportunity presents itself, take it and live in. It seems un-explainatory to me, but I have also had the experience to live in, so here are just a few of my favorite things about living in my house so far.

1. Living with your sisters.

When you live with your sisters you are literally never bored. You have about forty something girls in the house and those who don't live in are there all the time. Therefore you are constantly surrounded by your best friends, and what more could you really ask for than that?

2. Multiple Closets

That may not be an accurate depiction of what it looks like, but it is certainly what it feels like. I could go up to anyone in the house and ask them to borrow something and they would have multiple options already ready for me. I mean come on, that is every girl's dream!

3. The Chef

Everyone loves their mom's cooking, for the most part, but when you're at school, a home cooked meal is what is missed most by many students. Living in the house that is never an issue. When you have your own chef for the house you get that home cooked meal for breakfast, lunch, dinner and even dessert. The food is fancy and delicious.

4. The bond

If you thought you were close before, think again. You get even closer to your sisters by living in the house because your constantly surrounded by each other. You do and say the craziest things and your habits wear off on each other and you get to see everyone in their rarest of moments.

5. The location

There is nothing like living somewhere that's a good location. The sorority house provides the most amazing location on campus. Close to school and night life, you're street is always bustling with students and makes for a lively neighborhood environment.

6. The convenience

The fact that I can walk downstairs, ask if anyone wants to go on a quick Insomnia Cookies run and then it turning into an entire night of a dessert crawl is the most amazing thing to me. Just by walking down the stairs, my night went from a night of Netflix in bed to everlasting memories with friends.

7. The cleaning ladies

This may seem like something minor, but living with a ton of girls get messy really quickly. I mean we all have hair and shed a ton so cleaning ladies are something of importance in a sorority house. Them coming once a week is a luxury. With busy schedules and no one really wanting to clean, it is such a nice thing to have provided for us.

8. Bus Boys

Having bus boys is another thing that seems trivial, but is actually really important. There are often times tons of dishes need to be done. Again with the busy schedule not having to do our own dishes after dinner is another luxury we're provided with. Sure, it is something that takes minimal time in the end, but having a few bus boys is not the worst thing when girls have studying to do and class to attend.

9. The House

The sorority house itself is so nice. It is someplace you can not only call home, but a place that actually feels like a home. When you walk through the front door after a long day the relief of just knowing you're home is amazing.

10. The Memories

The memories are the most important thing about living in the house. The memories you make living in with your sisters are ones that you will never forget. From the nights cramming everyone into one girls room and laughing about god only knows what to getting ready to go out together and everything in-between, the memories are what's going to last a life time.

So, to all my sisters, thank you for making the past month an experience of a lifetime. I have loved every second of living with each and every one of you. The memories we have already created are ones to remember forever and I can't wait to make so many more over the next year. To the girls who are considering living in a house in the future, think no more. So enjoy you're time in the house if you're given the opportunity, because it is one that you will surely love.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
