Music has some kind of impact on the lives of almost everybody. Whether it's a part of their culture, their job, or they just do it to kill time, music is a pretty big factor in our lives. Music is just an overall great thing, at least in my opinion, and the opinion of many others. A thing that makes music so amazing, are the many instruments that can be used to create music. Now, some people think that it takes an absolute genius or musical god to play an instrument, but spoiler alert, that's simply not true. If you put forth the effort and are dedicated to it, you can easily learn how to play an instrument, whether it's a guitar, the piano, the drums, or anything else, you can do it. For instance, I thought I could never learn how to play an instrument. I tried the guitar, the piano, and then the guitar again, but I just wouldn't stick with it, but then my freshman year of college I decided I wanted to learn an instrument once and for all. I decided to go buy a ukulele and I practiced every single day to learn how to play. I'm not the best ukulele player on earth now, but I do know how to play notes and songs and all of that fun stuff, plus after I learned the ukulele and got that down, I began to learn how to play the guitar, so if I can learn how to play an instrument, you can too.

There are so many benefits that come with learning how to play an instrument, and here they are:

  1. Learning an instrument increases the capacity of your memory. When you learn an instrument, it increases your cognitive and motor skills and strengthens your brain overall. This strengthening comes from memorizing notes, strumming/playing patterns, and so much more that comes from learning an instrument.
  1. It enhances your perseverance. When you're learning how to play an instrument, it takes time and effort. It takes a lot of practice and patience to learn the notes and to continuously remember them.
  1. Your coordination improves. No matter what instrument you learn, there is musical notes that must be learned and followed when playing. Along with following the notes, coordination is enhanced with the movement and placement of your hands and fingers, depending on the instrument,
  1. A sense of achievement is created. When you begin your journey of learning an instrument, you're going to be presented with multiple barriers and difficulties that are going to be faced and once you overcome these difficulties and finally achieve the goals you set yourself, it's the best feeling. It's so rewarding to be able to play the things you once struggled with so much.
  1. It boosts your listening skills. When you're playing music and learning notes and such, you have to really listen more in-depth and focus on what you're playing, and this listening transfers over into your daily life.

There are so many more reasons that learning to play an instrument is great, but I didn't wanna bore you all with a massive article, but on real note, learn an instrument. Learning an instrument will make you such a happier persona and is such a great skill to learn.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!
