Why You Should Join The Becker College Odyssey Community
Becker College

What is Odyssey you may ask? Odyssey is a social media platform that is changing the way stories are told online. Odyssey uses millennials and the stories they have to tell and gives them a place to be published and to share their thought. Becker College has recently gotten their own community and we need you! If you love to free write and want your voice heard, then here is why you should join the Becker College Odyssey Community:

Get Published!

There aren't many opportunities like this one when you're in college. Not many people can say that they are in college and have their work published. This is huge!

Meet Your Fellow Classmates

What better way to meet those who have something in common with you! You'd be surprised how many people enjoy writing for fun. On this team we are more than just a community, we are a family. We turn to each other for help when it comes to writing weekly articles or just have random conversations in our GroupMe chats! Speaking of which...

GroupMe Chats!

Once accepted onto the team, you will be a part of these chats with all the team members along with our amazing AME (Assistant Managing Editor) who works in the NYC office! (Yeah, she's pretty much a big deal!) This is where we ask for advice on an article, whats going on around campus, and just anything and everything! You never know what conversations may happen in these chats! On this particular day, we were obsessing over our team members pets!

Improve Your Skills

You don't have to be the best writer in order to be a part of this community. The more you write, the more you learn and grow in your writing. You will work along side professionals who will also help you grow as a writer. As Editor-in-Chief of this community, there is nothing I love more than seeing these writers get better and better each week.

Represent Becker College

Becker has their sports, equestrian team, band club, community service clubs and now writers. When you write for this team, you are writing for yourself, others, and of course this school that we all hold dear to our hearts. Every time our articles get published, we are making Becker proud!

Writing Freedom

One of the many benefits of writing for Odyssey is that you can write about anything you want! There may be one or two things that we want you to stay away from, but other than that, you can write whatever your little heart desires! Unlike a class, we will never give you a grade or criticize your work which makes writing so much more fun that way! We all have our own unique way of writing and we want to see what you can do! You can write about current events, dorm life, long distance relationships, or what you had for dinner that night! The possibilities are endless!

Everyone can apply to join and we'll see if you're a fit!

Freshman, Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors! You don't have to be an English major or a communications major to be apart of this team. We have members from the Pre Vet program, Criminal Justice, etc. Everyone is welcomed with open arms!

Theres nothing else like the Odyssey community at Becker. Not many people get to say that you are a content creator for a growing platform! This is something that will you follow you after college and you can look back on you experience when you were in college. Don't pass this up! Join the Becker College Odyssey Community today!

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
