Dear Incoming Freshmen: Why You Should Get Involved

Dear Incoming Freshmen,

If you're anything like me, you're scared to get out and meet new people but you still want to find a way to get involved. The best thing you can do is crawl out of your shell and go find what is out there. If your school holds an event where you can explore all of the organizations, GO! This is where I found my current organization Student Activities Council and I truly believe that I found myself here.

Organizations don't necessarily have to have anything to do with your major, you just have to be interested in investing your time in it. Find something that you have even a little bit of interest in and wiggle your way in, your future self will thank you forever. And when it comes to college organizations, you aren't limited like you are in high school.

If your university is anything like mine, you will have at least 300 organizations to choose from.

If you can think it, it's there (including a live-action Humans vs. Zombies). Also, most universities have a rule that if you can get three people and a professor or sponsor from the school, you can start a new organization. Your possibilities are endless.

Through being involved in just this one organization on this campus, I have been introduced to endless possibilities and opportunities.

What exactly is it that you're looking for? Friendships? Personal growth? Resume builders?

I have found all of this within the Student Activities Council and I know you can too. I met my first college friend at a game of bingo hosted by Student Activites Council, I got to meet MAX, Melissa Villasenor, Nicole Byer, and so many more.

I got to learn how to run an event, I made a proposal to all of the members within Student Activities Council, and I've made some amazing friends. I've let my voice be heard and I've seen other people blossom friendships through events that I helped organize and that is a great feeling.

If you're ever feeling weary for whatever reason, just remember that college is your chance to start over and become a brand new you. I never really branched out in high school. I stuck to the same group, doing the same thing, and never really trying anything new. But having a voice on a college campus can actually change something or make you feel heard which is why I am where I am today.

College is your chance to meet life long friends and build for your future, and I promise that any organization you join will build that foundation for you and take you places that you might not have ever expected to go.

Take a deep breath, take a leap of faith, and push yourself into a scary world where your shell shatters and you're exposed. I promise you will not have a single regret.

Christmas is literally so close. We can almost taste it. But there is just one thing standing between you and the big day: FINALS. It's not the studying, lack of sleep, last minute cram sessions or crappy food intake that is the worst... but the fact that you cannot focus because, well, CHRISTMAS. How do professors expect you to focus when Christmas is soooo soon. For all my fellow Christmas lovers out there, I feel your pain.

Daily Fun Lists

One of the most dreaded places on campus is the library. Nothing awesome ever happens here. Usually, the only reason you're here is because you've procrastinated so long that the library is the only place you'll actually get stuff done. It gives you this feeling of sadness and impending doom. You have no idea how this is going to go or how long you'll be here, but you do know it is about to be the most excruciating experiences yet. But it has to get done, so you drag yourself to the lovely library.

With each new year comes new goals.

Deciding on a goal can be hard, unsure of what to change for this new year. A new goal for myself is to be happier and take care of myself more. I am a very driven person; so driven that I commit to a million and ten things.

It is that time of year again. Christmastime. It is one of my favorite seasons for a myriad of reasons. Here are just a few reasons why I love Christmas. This list is in no order of importance.

1. The Christmas decorations

I am that person who will decorate directly after Thanksgiving is over. This year, my roommates and I put the tree up in our apartment before we even left for Thanksgiving break. It is a great stress reliever for me to just sit in my living room and work on the huge amount of work I have before the semester is over.
