Why You Should Get On Board With Austin City Limits

Music festivals are an animal all their own. With the diverse audiences, quirky musicians, and interesting foods, you can be certain that your experience will be exciting! Texas has many famously great events to its name like the Houston rodeo, Dallas Cowboys games, the Texas State Fair, and many more, with my personal favorite being Austin City Limits music festival. When Texas and Music Festival meet, especially in the wonderfully bizarre state capitol, there is magic in the air.

5 Wonderful things about attending Austin City Limits

1. You can wear whatever you want

In fact, you have to "wear whatever you want," and what you want better be sufficiently weird to keep up with the crowd in Austin. Whether it be posing as a super hipster or dressing like you're from the era of tie-dye and circular shades, you have to stand out to fit in at ACL. Braid your hair, get out the reeboks, and lose your mind at A$AP Rocky!

2. You can hear 10 killer bands in one day

You're going to need a lot of caffeine and a good measure of determination to make it to all of them, but you can see shows by Halsey, Misterwives, and the Weekend right in the heart of downtown Austin. It would cost at least $20 a show for each of the 154 bands that will be there, but you can see it all for the price of a weekend pass.

3. You might just discover the next hot group

Many young, talented performers have gotten their start in one of those coveted early afternoon slots at the festival. Each of them have such potential and gift, even if you're not starstruck now, you'll be blown away by their ability and wishing you had gotten their autograph when they are the next Muse.

4. You're in Austin

Austin is a thriving city, filled with exciting things to see, a beautiful lake in the center of town, delicious and unique eateries, and the most interesting collection of people. Austin is beautiful because of its natural landscape and unique because of its strong culture. Once you visit, you will be drawn to come back time and time again.

5. You can make awesome memories with your people

Music festivals have a special way of making people come together. You never feel so united with your fellow person as when hearing a musician pour out their heart in performance and singing along with the hundreds or thousands of people next to you. Sharing those moments with friends are treasured memories that you will have forever.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
