We are hardworking. We are loyal. We are unafraid of toil. We were unfairly called, "A lot o' Duffers," by the beloved Hagrid in the first books. But I am proud to be part of the most underappreciated yet kindest Hogwarts House, and so should anyone else who belongs to it. I'm talking about the House of Hufflepuff, and here are some reasons to be a proud member:
1. Hufflepuffs are brave, unafraid of toil. Just for a cause. For others. Not to show off, but for the greater good.
2. Hufflepuffs above all of the other houses are the most inclusive and justice oriented. While the other three Hogwarts founders were obsessing over just getting the kids with the qualities they thought were superior, Helga Hufflepuff accepted everyone, she famously stated: "I'll teach the lot and treat them all the same."
3. Hufflepuffs are loyal. Had Peter Pettigrew been a Hufflepuff, he wouldn't have betrayed James and Lily. Every house has exceptions here and there, but the defining trait of every Hufflepuff is loyalty.
4. The Room of Requirement which saved our heroes' collective skins more than once over the course of the series was invented by none other than Helga Hufflepuff. And it is open to everyone, no matter what house they belong to.
5. Nymphadora Tonks was a Hufflepuff. That awesome, shapeshifting, big sisterly auror went into battle right after giving birth to future Hufflepuff Headboy Teddy Lupin. Never say that Hufflepuffs aren't Huffletuff (I'm sorry, I had to).
6. Cedric Diggory was a Hufflepuff -- a boy who according to Dumbledore was "brave, loyal, and true." The boy who didn't want to win the game of Quidditch just because Harry fell victim to the Dementors (seriously read the books). The boy who told his friends not to bully Harry. One of the first victims of He Who Must Not Be Named's return (Peter Pettigrew, technically). He did his house proud.
7. "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" which is coming out in November of 2016 introduces us to Newton Scamander and guess what?
HE'S. A. HUFFLEPUFF!
8. What with kindness, humility, and justice being core traits Hufflepuff produces the fewest dark wizards. Kindness doesn't equal being a doormat, do I need to point out yet again that Tonks was a Hufflepuff? Personally, I like to think they're the least likely to bully others and would often be on the right side of history. And seriously could the world really afford to use less kindness?
9. A Hufflepuff is fair; which is a far more underrated quality than ambition or chivalry, but just as important. Remember when are dearly departed Cedric didn't take advantage of the fact that Harry was injured during the Triwizard Tournament? If you haven't read the books, probably not. But that's a thing that happened. Showcasing the awesome house value of fair play.
10. And lastly: we stayed. During the epic Battle of Hogwarts, many of-age Hufflepuffs stayed with Gryffindors, simply because it was the right thing to do.
