Ohio is an absolutely amazing and completely underrated state. I am one of the few Ohioans that are actually proud to say I live here, and would love to eventually raise a family here. There are so many great things about Ohio, and yet people seem to hate it because it's "boring." I mean, yes, there are corn fields just about everywhere, and you have to drive pretty far to get just about anywhere important. But when you think about all that there is to do here, you realize Ohio is far from boring. So here are a few reasons why you should be happy that you live in a beautiful state like Ohio.
Zoos
The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, The Cincinnati Zoo, and the Toledo Zoo. The Columbus Zoo has over 580 acres for you to explore and a water park called Zoombezi Bay connected to it. And if you purchase a ticket to Zoombezi Bay, you can get into the zoo for free. The Cincinnati Zoo has hundreds of species of animals plus 3,000 varieties of plants in its botanical gardens. The Toledo zoo is considered one of the most complete zoos in the world. Hello, it has a Hippoquariam? How can you live in a state with a Hippoquariam and say it's boring?
Dangerous Animals
I think this is one thing that people don't consider when they think about living in Ohio. Where are all the dangerous animals? They aren't in Ohio, I'll tell you that much. The more "exotic" the place, the more terrifying the animals. I don't know about you, but I'm thankful that I won't see an alligator on my front porch like my dad did when he lived in Florida.
Amusement Parks
Cedar Point and Kings Island; need I say more? Well, if you aren't satisfied, just know this: Cedar Point is the Roller Coast Capital of the world. The world, people. You can travel anywhere, all over, and little ole Ohio has Cedar Point, which has been voted "Best Amusement Park in the World" for 16 consecutive years by readers of Amusement Today.
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame kind of needs its own category because it is that cool. This is a museum solely dedicated to preserve and collect the history of rock and roll. Why would you not want to visit a place with recent inductees including Cheap Trick, Nirvana, Kiss, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and so many more talented artists and bands. Even if you aren't a huge fan of rock and roll, you still have the opportunity to visit this place and expose your self to new things.
Hiking
Although Ohio is mainly flat, and you would think that there is only corn fields to explore, there is absolutely so much more. Ohio doesn't have the most exotic trails for you to explore or hike through, but there are a few hidden hiking gems. From Columbus, to Cincinnati, to Cuyahoga Falls, there are trails all over this incredible state for you to explore. With sandstone, waterfalls, and caves, I would highly recommend exploring the beautiful five mile trail called Old Man's Cave.
Weather
The best of every single season. What more could someone ask for? Now, I know most people prefer warm weather rather than cold weather, but constant heat would be just too much for me. A cool autumn night, fresh air, a bonfire; Ohio offers so many opportunities to experience that. Or snow. I know we all hate having to trudge through it, or wipe it all off our cars, but snow is so beautiful. A fresh canvas across a dirty world makes everything look new. People across the world dream of seeing their first snow fall.
Art
You can spend a day exploring The Cleveland Museum of Art. You can spend a weekend in Columbus and see a concert at one of the many venues in the city. There are beautiful murals, like the one above, that can be found specifically in Columbus. From music to art, Ohio has a lot more to see and do when it comes to city night life than most know.
When you go to other countries, people don't really know Ohio, but sometimes they do. Ohio is a completely underrated state with so much to see and do. So much more than I even listed above. Because really, no matter where you are, the more time you spend there, the more bored you will get and the less impressed you will be. With big cities like Columbus and Cleveland, Ohio has so much to explore and see, whether it's in the city night life or the small town back roads.
This state is beautiful, and you should be proud to call it your home.
