5 Reasons Why You Should Appreciate Your Old, Beat Up Car
Scott Umstattd

I drive a 2001 Toyota Carolla. Her name is Loretta and she is pretty old and kind of beat up, but I love her. Like many first cars, she was passed down to me in her old age. The two of us have been through a lot together, and even though she shakes when I go over 65mph and makes questionable noises, I'm glad I have her. Here are a few reasons why.

1. It has history

Your clunker may have been passed down through your family, like mine. Or maybe, it had a past life with someone totally different. Either way, it probably has almost as many stories as it has miles.

2. It gets you from point A to point B

Even though it's not new and shiny, your old car gets a car's most important job done (most of the time).

3. You've made memories together

Cars are special to people, and older ones are no different. You make all kind of memories driving everywhere in your car, and you'll definitely never forget that time you broke down.

4. It's probably taught you a few things

I would never know how to put oil in a car if it weren't for Loretta. Old cars teach you to be resourceful, to have patience and a sense of humor.

5. It has personality

Loretta is one of a kind and has grown close to my heart. She will always be my first car.

Toilet Troubles

"So, usually I would never go on a Tinder date but when you are out with girlfriends and a hot Bosnian guy says he wants to hang with you and his friends, you oblige. We head to their apartment and when I realized I may pee my pants if I don't find a bathroom soon. I ask for the bathroom and a friend of my tinder date shows me to it and said in all seriousness that I was not allowed to flush the toilet under ANY circumstances. Having a few drinks--or five--I relieved myself to, nevertheless, flush the toilet. Within seconds, his bathroom was flooded and towels were laid out everywhere to catch the toilet water. To say the least, we were not invited back"

I'm the Short Friend. I've been the Short Friend since about the seventh grade. I'm the one who stands in the front of the photos, gets made fun of for their height, and still shops in the kids department.
