Why You Should Always Complete A Project In Full

Completing a task is not always easy. But things left undone can pile up quickly and leave you with a lacking sense of accomplishment. I have found my life has become easier as I have increasingly forced myself to finish a task or a project.

My most recent examples of this pertain to video games. Currently, I set my heart on creating my entire house in the game Minecraft, from memory. I devoted 10 or more hours into this project because I had started it, and wanted the feeling of accomplishment as I walked through the entirety of my pseudo house.

That is exactly what came of that project! Sure, it wasn’t perfect, but it was mine, and it looked like my home. I excitedly showed everyone I could because I was so proud of the hard work I had put into my project.

You should always do your best when doing projects, and not over analyze your work until the very end. I found myself getting caught up on the minor detailing’s of the walls or paintings more than once. This can relate to real life projects as well in the sense that you should proofread your work after it's finished, and not while the creativity is flowing.

This mentality can be useful when carried into a work-driven environment. You’re most likely going to have to do many projects and work on them extensively and in full. There are no leaving things undone in a professional environment, so why carry that mentality into your personal life?

I have found when things are left half-done I can tolerate it for a few weeks, until reality hits me. It begins to bother me that I haven’t put away all of my laundry from last week. It starts to bother me that I haven’t cleaned out those 42 water bottles from my car. It takes a while, but leaving things half-accomplished never makes me feel happy or proud compared to when I can say I did them in full.

“Mom I cleaned my room!...Kinda, except for like that corner, and my desk.” Doesn’t sound as good as, “MOM IT’S PERFECT COME LOOK!”

If you are a creator, make something you believe in, in full. If you think of a tune to a song, keep going; finish the song even if you don’t like it. That way you have a full piece to work with, and not just some musical fragment destined to be lost forever.

The same goes for any ideas that pop into your head, it could be an idea for an invention. Draw it out and tell your friends, further your ideas and something really great may come of it.

If you are going to do something always do your best to do it completely. A sense of accomplishment will shortly follow.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
