Why You Need To Start Listening To Little Mix
Little Mix

If you do not know who Little Mix is then, my friends, you have been missing out. This band is from the UK, and they're girl group! They auditioned for the X-Factor UK as solo artists, then were formed as a group during the competition. Much like One Direction was formed. Little Mix did end up winning the X-Factor in 2011 though. Ever since then they have not only grown as individuals, but also as performers. I have yet to see them in concert but as Ed Sheeran is on my bucket list, so is Little Mix. I did not fully start loving this band until their second album came out, even though I did enjoy their music from the outset. I missed out on a lot about their message to young girls and society in general.

Let's start off with some quick background about this band. Little Mix won the X-Factor the year after One Direction got third place. So for a while nobody knew much about Little Mix because One Direction was dominating the music industry and pretty much the world within a year. The only known thing at that time was that one of the members, Perrie Edwards, was dating ex-band member of One Direction's Zayn Malik (and boy did he do her SO wrong).

Little Mix is a band of four lovely girls: Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, and Jade Thirlwall. They have released four albums so far: DNA, Salute, Get Weird and most recently, Glory Days. If you asked me which album is my favorite it would have to be Salute due to it is glorifying message of empowerment and confidence, and it's also the one that I sing in the shower.

Now if you also didn't already know, Zayn Malik and Perrie Edwards had been dating for about four years altogether if you don't count the time he cheated on her. I know...yikes! Then they got back together, then decided to get engaged. At this period many people were saying that their relationship is fake and that it was a publicity stunt, sadly, I was one of those people, it was probably my fourteen-year-old mindset of jealousy, but now Perrie is my favorite member of the band. Then they were engaged for a while then all of a sudden they broke up. It took a while for a reason to come up but, Zayn broke up with her over text! SERIOUSLY?! Not a good move by Zayn and it is incredibly disgusting, but Perrie is so beyond confident now, and honestly, she is goals.

Ever since Little Mix's first album came out which had a beautiful theme of being proud of who you are but also friendship their musical message has grown. They plan on empowering women and young girls, which I am totally on board. Salute, their second album, and the single itself is literally the anthem of Women Empowerment with lines like "Representing all women, salute, salute", "It's who we are / We don't need no camouflage / It's the female federal / And we're taking off / If you with me, women lemme hear you say", and "Divas, Queens, we don't need no man, salute" and many other lines from the song are so great. Even the music video which you can watch here, everything from the makeup and hair, to the amazing choreography, I AM LIVING!!!!

Their new album called Glory Days came out in November of 2016 and had made its way to the top. With their single "Shout Out To My Ex" which won an award against Zayn is hilarious considering the song is about him. The song is also incredibly empowering talking about getting over heartbreak and getting back that confidence that was once lost. The music video is also fabulous, seriously who does their makeup?! I need tutorials!!! Other songs on the album like "Power" (which is a total bop and a great workout song by the way) talk about having female power, such as the lyric "Baby, you are the man, but I got the power, " and it talks about how strong all females are. A lot of the other songs on the album talk about being strong even when the hardest of times have come, even in our society today with being a woman, always stay the strong, confident woman you are!

I have loved this band for many years, and when I am feeling low on confidence, I just turn my Little Mix playlist up and jam. I highly recommend giving them a listen because they are some of the most talented women in the industry. Even watching their live performances are to die for, they are ICONIC. So I hope one day I can finally see them in person and meet them to thank them for all the confidence and self-love.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
