I’ve been hype and enthusiastic about Dance Marathon ever since I was a sophomore. I had signed up with my sorority and figured that it couldn’t be too bad—after all, even though I’m bad at dancing, I still loved it with every fiber of my being. Going into the event completely unsure of what to expect, I left 13 hours later feeling completely changed. I had been passionate about other philanthropies and charities plenty of times before, but this time, it was different.
Fast forward a year and a half later, and I am now serving on the Dance Marathon Executive Board for the first time. Every day, I grow more excited about this year’s event, and I want everyone to know about how amazing Dance Marathon is.
You may be wondering: What is Dance Marathon? Dance Marathon, otherwise known as DM, is a nationwide movement with over 150 campuses across the country that raises money for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Dance Marathon at the College of Charleston raises money for the Medical University of South Carolina’s Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital, which is currently under construction.
Not only does the 13-hour event include dancing, but DM also features bands, live performances, patient stories and giveaways. Children and families from the hospital also visit the event, which is incredibly inspiring and uplifting to see.
DM is about making miracles for kids right here in our very own community, and giving them the amazing opportunities that life has to offer. It’s about being a part of something bigger than yourself, and believing in what is yet to come.
I DM because I believe in miracles, and you can, too. Registration for this year’s Dance Marathon at College of Charleston is now open, and it’s never too early to sign up! If you want to make a difference in your community and make miracles, visit this site here.
If you’re looking to support a local charity in a unique and fun way, I highly recommend Dance Marathon. Not only will you leave the event feeling more hype than you’ve ever felt before, but you’ll feel proud of what you contributed to such an amazing charity at the end of the day.
For the kids, all day every day.
