There are some college essentials out there that are a bit more "essential" than others. In my opinion, hammocks are up there with bedding and clothes. Everybody needs a hammock. They are essential. They can sometimes be pricey, but if you take care of them, they will last for a long time and can bring you substantial joy. Honestly, you won't feel like you need a hammock until you have a hammock, and then you'll wonder how you ever survived so long without one. Ironically, I am writing this from my hammock, so maybe I'm biased.

1. It's something to do with your friends.

If you are trying to make friends in college, hammocking is a great place to start. Invite your friends to hammock with you so you have something to do and maybe it will become a tradition! It's more fun to hammock with others anyway.

2. It's great when you need to do homework.

Your hammock is the perfect place to do homework. It's calming and once you're all set up, it's easy to stay focused and get stuff done.

3. It's relaxing.

Sitting in a hammock will really help you to de-stress. Rocking back and forth suspended over the ground can be somewhat therapeutic and help you to stress less about school. School can get overwhelming, but hammocking can give you a much-needed break.

4. It's a chance to get some fresh air.

Giphy

Yay! Fresh air is fantastic! College students don't get nearly enough fresh air. With a hammock, you will be sure to spend more time outside and soak up all the vitamin D you need to stay healthy.

5. It's somewhere to sit.

Giphy

College campuses can get crowded and it can be hard to find a place to sit. If you have a hammock, you don't need a chair! Just find a couple trees and you're set! Just make sure the trees are close enough together for your hammock straps to reach.

6. You can take it camping.

Giphy

Many college students like to go camping together and with a hammock, you'll be prepared. You might not even need to bring a tent. You can sleep in your hammock! Hammocks are perfect for camping and you'll fit right in with your fellow college students.

7. It can become a hobby.

Giphy

If you are looking for a new hobby, here you go! Finding the best new places to hammock on campus can become your new thing. It gives you something to do in your free time and it's something you can share with your friends.

8. It's fun.

Giphy

It's just downright fun. Hammocks are easy to hang and fun to sit in. They can help you make friends and can become a new hobby. No matter where you take your hammock, you won't regret it.

So go get yourself a hammock! There are lots of different kinds to choose from on Amazon. It's never a bad time to go hammocking and your college career won't be the same without it!

Now that Halloween is over, it's time to focus on the Holiday Season. Don't get me wrong, I think Thanksgiving is great and can't wait for it, but nothing gives me greater joy than watching Freeform's 25 Days of Christmas, lighting peppermint scented candles, decking the halls, and baking gingerbread cookies. So while we approach the greatest time of the year, let's watch the 15 best Christmas movies of all time.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

Being pre-med is quite a journey. It’s not easy juggling school work, extracurricular activities, volunteering, shadowing, research, and MCAT prep all at the same time. Ever heard of “pain is temporary, but GPA is forever?” Pre-meds don’t just embody that motto; we live and breathe it. Here are 10 symptoms you’re down with the pre-med student syndrome.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
