Why You Don't Need To Lose The Extra 10 Pounds

An overwhelming number of people in today’s western society believe if they just “lost those extra 10 pounds" they would be happy. But why not be happy now? Life is happening now. Life is not happening when you lose those ten pounds. Being obsessed with losing that extra weight is making you miss out on what is happening right in front of you.

Wake up and let the day happen. Let it happen without saying “no” because of the weight you believe you need to lose to be happy.

Those extra ten pounds come from not turning down the dinner dates with your friends, they come from not turning down the ice cream trips right after. They come from the chocolate cake celebrating your best friend’s birthday.

Those extra ten pounds are what give you the energy to go on adventures and go hiking and to see the beauty of the world because you're not exhausted from only eating 1000 calories a day. The extra ten pounds are what give you the energy to, and pure bliss from, running around on a sunny day.

Those extra ten pounds are also the cold days when you have movie nights all snuggled up, drinking hot chocolate and eating popcorn, not giving a damn about the extra calories because you feel happy. They're the laughs shared between you and your loved ones during all of this.

They're the well-rested feeling you feel from getting an adequate night's sleep because you weren't up running at 5 a.m. obsessing over burning the calories you are about to have for breakfast. They're the memories you make because you decided, "You know what? It IS okay to turn down one of your five workouts that week."

They're the treat of a reward you give yourself after a long week, or when you work really hard at something and it finally pays off.

So stop counting everything. Stop worrying if you eat an extra slice of pizza, or drink something other than water. You are human. Your body is a beautiful work of art, just by being.

Those extra ten pounds? Those are memories. They are the good stuff in life. Those are what you're going to remember when you look back.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
