2016 is finally over as everybody shutters from the horrors of the past year. We lost amazing people, had a brutal election, and disasters shook the world. But the only way from the bottom is up and everybody is looking at 2017 to be better (please).
Alongside a new year, there's the tradition of making a new year's resolution. There are the classic ones like lose weight, eat healthier, quitting alcohol and there are the more obscure ones like realizing things (and boy did we realize a lot). While it's a nice goal to make a new years resolution to better yourself in some way, I find it rather unnecessary.
First off, by the start of February most everybody will have forgotten what their goal even was. In my time on earth, I've only known one person to keep their new years resolution through till the end of December and yeah, it was impressive. But the majority rules and sustaining whichever resolution you've made is likely not going to happen.
On a more positive note, I see new years resolutions the same as "I'll start my diet on Monday" goals. There's no better time than the present and that giant ball dropping in New York City does not signify the possibility of change. Every single day is a new start. Whether it's January first or the middle of October, you can better yourself without a holiday to prove it's legitimacy.
So whether you've made a new years resolution or not, know that 1) you don't have to keep it and 2) you can start whenever.
