As the years go by animated movies come out in an abundance. Some are legendary and will forever be remembered, and some are forgotten and will never have a sequel taken out, but all of them have something for everybody in the audience to enjoy. They are all cute, funny, and sometimes they can break your heart (I'm totally talking about UP). A few weeks ago, I went to see "Zootopia," a movie that I thought was going to be a harmless movie about animals living like humans became a lesson in the making.
"Zootopia" talked about real life issues we as a society are going through right now. From political corruption, to discrimination, and even stereotypes. The movie depicts society in a way that both adults and children can see and have no complaints about it.
The movie starts off with Judy Hopps a little bunny who wants to became a big time cop in Zootopia. Right from the bat Judy deals with the trouble of trying to become something in a male dominated job. Not only that but everyone always brings her down for being too small; but that did not stop Judy. She fought for what she wanted and boy did she deserve it. When I saw everyone telling Judy that she could not be a cop because of her size it really showed me how many people today are told the same thing. Children are told these things by their parents, teachers, and friends; and the main moral is that they shouldn't listen. If they want to be something, then they have to ignore those voices telling them no and do it. Judy becoming a cop and saving Zootopia also proves that anyone can make a difference. No matter how big or small if you have the heart and courage, you can also make a difference.
The movie teaches you not to judge a book by it's cover. Everyone in Zootopia saw foxes as cheats and liars while many of them were just regular citizens who did not want to get pushed around. The animals were afraid of them and even went as far as not allowing them to eat in the same places as the others (sounds familiar). The truth was that all animals are equal no matter if they were predators or prey. Someone can not judge a whole group of animals (or people) for something only one small group did. Which is something that is happening right now, we are openly judging a race and even a religion for something a small group of people are causing.
One thing I enjoyed a lot was the message about love. Two animals who are completely opposite overcame all of the stereotypes and became best friends. They loved one another for who they were and each discovered their strengths and weaknesses.
If you haven't taken the time to watch the movie yet, I recommend you go and see it. This movie teaches you about our society today and opens your eyes to how sad it is for others. "Zootopia" deserves to be put into the classic animated movie list because it truly is magical.
