It's been 10 years since "The Black Parade" album was put out by My Chemical Romance, so I think it's only right for me to write about this now.
The band formed in 2001 and they were active till 2013 the best known line of members of the band were Gerard Way, Mikey Way (brothers) Ray Toro, Frankie Iero and Bob Bryer. They were a New Jersey formed band. It's now 2016 and three years since the band deiced to go their own way, but to this day the band still means so much to so many fans for many reasons.
1. The Music Had Real Feelings
They wrote a lot of their music together, and lots of it came from their heart and was about stuff they had dealt with in their youth. They wrote songs about Gerard and Mikey's grandmother who bought the band their first van, and when she passed it hit them all pretty hard. They wrote a song about the twin towers falling in New York City. Songs about how it's OK not to be OK, about being yourself. Yes there are lots of songs out like that but nothing to the point where you can feel all the feelings the guys had when they wrote them.
2. They Cared About Their Fans
They all understood what it was like to hit rock bottom and feel like nothing was worth fighting for. Gerard struggled with many demons himself and the band helped him overcome them and the guys wanted their music to do the same for their fans as it did for them. When he saw scars on the arms of their fans Gerard would stand on stage and tell everyone in the crowd watching them that they were beautiful and had something to fight for and he would 100% mean it.
3. The Music Told Stories
Like I stated before they wrote songs that made you reach deep down and deal with feelings, but the songs tell a story. When The Black Parade came out the whole CD itself was a whole book. A story about "The Patient" who was dying and the songs were about his passage of life and then death came for him in the form of a parade. This is based upon Gerard's notion of death appearing to a person in the form of their fondest memory, in this case seeing a parade as a child.
4. They Were There For Us When No One Knew What To Say
There were times that us as fans would just hit rock bottom and even our best friends couldn't pull us out of the hole. Sometimes all we need was a few songs from the band. When we truly felt sad and alone the music would make us feel whole again and give us a reason to push through everything that was being thrown at us.
5. They Still Have Faith In Us
It's been three years since the band has "retired" (lot's of us have hope they will come back) when they released a teaser for what we now know was just the relaunch for the Black Parade, but with the teaser everyone thought they were getting back together and going on tour and we hoped and waited for an answer they came out and told us that they where overwhelmed with how many of us still loved them and that they still loved us and to live on even though My Chemical Romance is gone.
Though the band My Chemical Romance may be gone, to us fans they will never be gone because they gave us so much and we couldn't just walk away from them like that. We are forever a part of the MCRmy. They gave us life when others wanted to take it away. They loved all of us for being us and let us know it was OK to not fit in.Those of us who grew up listening to them will be the parents telling our kids and grandkids "back in my day we had My Chemical Romance" because that's what kind of band they were. A band that will always matter and will never be forgotton Long Live My Chemical Romance.
