If you consider yourself a writer, I hope you're surrounded by other writers. Whether that means you have one friend who's also a writer or you have a whole group of friends who are also writers, I just hope you have someone.
Writer friends are special to us. They see the world as we do. They notice the fine details in a room. They can look at a scenario and think through the different ways it could end. They can give you advice on how to enhance your story and share in the genuine excitement you feel about completing a chapter.
Friends who share your love of writing are often very creative. They can help you overcome a severe case of writer's block with a good brainstorming session. They can point out errors in your spelling, grammar, and sentence structure. They are constantly ready to share their next story idea with you. I mean, come on — Who else is going to listen to you talk about characters as if they were your children?
With a love of writing usually comes a love of reading. You two can browse bookstores together for hours on end. If there is a book being made into a film, you're there. But, of course, make sure to point out how much better the book was and how everyone should go read it for themselves.
If you are a writer, you need writer friends. Whether you write plays, short stories, articles, or any other type, find someone to do it with. Find someone who is moved by the emotion held within pages and gets excited at the twist and turn of a plot. After all, you're going to need someone to buy your first book!
