So you love makeup. Many do! And because of this, we've all inevitably made some makeup blunders and "oh God no's" in the past. But some people still make them. And we honestly can't help but cringe and often times even have to fight back the urge to try and fix others' makeup for them.
For a better picture of what I mean, here are a few of those makeup "oh God no's" I'm talking about. Prepare yourself.
1. Cake face
Cakey foundation can happen directly after you apply foundation, after being set with powder and even a few hours after application, so this is a tricky one to avoid sometimes. Most times, however, it is due to the formula of your foundation in tandem with your skin type. For instance, if you have naturally oily skin, use a light moisturizer beforehand, let it dry and apply your foundation with a damp beauty blender or any other sponge to help it blend properly. Also, use a primer. Primers help to prevent texture and create a smoother surface for the foundation to lay on!
2. Unblended contour
The point of contour is to slim down your face and emphasizing your natural facial structure, not to make you look like someone threw dirt at your face. Always make sure to be using the right shade for your skin tone and blend in a well lit place, that way you can see how intense or subtle your contour is coming out and you don't end up walking out of the house looking like a zombie.
3. Uneven lipstick
This one does admittedly take some practice, especially if you're jumping onboard the liquid lipstick train. The quickest fix? Lip liner or a lip brush. Lip liner helps you get a better picture of evenness before applying the rest of the product, as well as preventing the lipstick from bleeding beyond the lip line. A lip brush will make applying the lipstick easier since it is much more precise than say a lipstick bullet or a liquid lipstick wand. You can use the wand or bullet later to enhance the color.
4. Raccoon eyes
While for a select few, this look can work...for most, it doesn't. Most girls who pack on the black eyeshadow just do exactly that, only use black eyeshadow. If you're going for an edgy look, add more dimension. Use some silvers, greys, maybe even some earth tones and blend them out to make it look more smokey, less flat and for the most part less scary.
5. Clown blush
Always use a light hand when applying blush. Yes, some colors will look better on you than others, but even those that should be mindful of how much product you're actually putting on your face. You'll end up looking like you're having an allergic reaction or, as already suggested, a clown.
6. Two-toned skin
Never forget your neck! When applying your foundation, always always always apply it to your neck, ears and even your chest if needed. Nothing's worse than realizing at the end of the day that your face is a completely different color than the rest of your body.
7. Block brows
If you're going to outline your brows, make sure to blend them in and use short strokes to actually resemble hair. Your eyebrow makeup should resemble your natural eyebrow...not something you would see in Tetris.
8. Too much highlight
Yes, even the "pros" make mistakes. Adding too much matte highlight can make you look like you have a bad sunglasses tan, not emphasize your better facial features. And adding too much shimmer highlight can frankly just make you look really sweaty and (get ready for it)...moist.
9. Overlined lips
Speaking of "pros", ever since Kylie Jenner showcased her flawless lips (that she once claimed was only due to using lip liner to overdraw her lips before admitting to getting lip injections) overlining lips has been quite the trend. And it's not all that bad...until you go way too far. Overlining your lips is a way to make your lips appear fuller, not like they got stung by a bee.
10. Flashback powder
This is another tricky one to avoid, and it's all because of a single ingredient found in some translucent powders: silica. Note: silica is not the same as silicon and silicone! Silica is found most commonly in powders labeled "HD." It's used because it's great for soaking up excess oils and diffusing light, making your skin look virtually flawless on HD video; that is, until direct camera flash comes out.
11. Spider lashes
I remember when this was a thing, like in middle school. Is it still a thing? I really hope not. I'm not sure exactly when or why the whole clumpy, spider-like eyelashes became trendy. But to be honest, it just gives me the "heebee-geebees."
