Why I Would Not Trade My Summer Job In Daycare For Anything

Working in a daycare may seem extremely tiring, but it is so rewarding in the end.

Why I Would Not Trade My Summer Job In Daycare For Anything

I have always been told that it takes a special person to work with children. I find this to be true, except I think that anyone can work with children as long as you have the stamina and heart to do it.

I work at a daycare this summer. I just finished my first week and already, the payback is so rewarding. I love being able to build relationships with all the little children. I don't think words can explain how wonderful it is to be able to love on children and get to watch them grow and learn new things.

I am only the teacher's aide, but the kids rely on me to answer the questions and show them wrong from right. They may need to be reminded time and time again that what they are doing is wrong, but eventually, they learn. Being there in the moment when they learn is the biggest reward, they have grown.

One of my favorite times with the kids is when we go outside. I love watching them explore nature. They are constantly learning and when they are outside they have so many things to consider learning about. One of the most memorable times I have been outside with a group of toddlers was when one little girl was trying to catch ants so that she could eat them.

Another funny story is that there is an outside toy that little kids can ride around if they pedal. It is similar to a bunch of exercise bikes put together in a circle. One little girl can get herself onto the seat but she can never get herself off.

With toddlers and preschoolers, there is something funny that happens every day. One of the little boys couldn't remember my name and he kept calling me "not mommy." Something memorable happens all the time. These kids touch my life and I hope that I can do the same for them.

It doesn't matter what anyone says to me about my job because I would not even need to be paid to do what I do. I would volunteer. These kids just need a special kind of love. And I am more than happy to be the one to give it.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
