Why Work Friends Are The Greatest Friends
Ryan Morton

Working can be quite the struggle especially when you are required to work, go to school, and maintain a good GPA. Every place is different; however there is always one thing that remains constant: no one else understands what you have to deal with more than your work friends. Through the long shifts, crazy customers, and your manager's varying emotions you know that you can confide in your work friends when things get crazy. Your work friends are the greatest because:

You can all rant about management and never get tired of it

The amount of stories you have about your managers and how they make your job so much harder consists of over half of your conversations. We all have that one manager we love and the one we can't stand and your work friends understand when you need to complain about them and are more than willing to join in.

You are forced to deal with similar customers

Being in customer service everyone knows that the customer is not always right. Having a table dine and dash or not tipping, yeah your work friends have dealt with that too and understand how terrible it makes you feel. You all want the non-tippers to burn in hell and cringe when you have to deal with a large party, but know it's better if your on a party with your friend.

You spend about half of your week with these people

You work from anywhere from 30 to 40 hours a week. That's a lot of time to spend with your work friends, which can be even more time than seeing your significant other or family. However, as much as you hate work you're glad you get to spend it with them. In this time you come to learn so much about each other.

They understand what/who you are actually complaining about

We all know that one co-worker that no one else can't stand and that you can gossip about with your work friends. You can even complain about the customers and all the ridiculous task they make you complete. Complaining about the company? Yep that too. Nothing is off limits.

When your shift is over, you know that they need a drink just as much as you

When you all get out of work after a crazy shift you know you can count on them to go get a drink (or 5) with you. Nobody parties better than your work friends.

They have your back and cheer you on

They're happy for you when something in your life is going well and when something goes wrong they will be there for you too. Another co-worker is harassing you, they'll have your back and support you through anything.

Work is tolerable because of them

Whenever you see your friends are working with you, you can't help but get excited. You know that you can now get through this shift no matter what gets thrown at you and your reaction when you both get into work is priceless.

The inside jokes are plentiful

There's no one else that can make you laugh like your work friends. You have the most insane jokes that if anyone else heard them they would think you are all mental, but you know that it makes your friendship stronger and helps you make it through your shift.

When one of your friends get a new job it leaves a hole in your friend group

It's always hard to say goodbye to one of your work friends. You know that no one will ever replace them and it'll always feel like something is missing at work. You even contemplating quitting just because they have.

They start to get invested in all aspects of your life

You learn about each others personal lives and start to ask about how their mom or significant other is. You want all the juicy gossip on their other friends even though you don't know them. Also, you just have to follow them on every social media platform available and like all of their posts.

When it comes down to it, no one understands you better than your work friends. Through thick and thin you've been through it all together which has only brought you closer together. You're a work family and you love each other.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…
