Wearing a uniform my whole school career is something that some people cringe when I tell them about, but I loved it. If there was a uniform for college, I'd wear it because picking out outfits is too much.
1.Didn't have to deal with a dress code
Reading ridiculous dress codes about how short a girls skirt can be or how much should she is allowed to show is exhausting. The frustration and the annoyance of being sent home and being forced to change is too much. Don't get me wrong, we had rules about how long your socks could be or what color they were, but you knew exactly what was not allowed and what was and it was never a mystery of will I be sent home or not.
2. I didn't have to pick out outfits
Getting ready every morning was easy. I never did my hair or makeup and my outfit was planned out already. I didn't have to see what matched or see what went well together. My plaid skirt always matched my polo.
3. I didn't have to constantly buy new clothes
Back to school clothes shopping never happened, maybe just socks or headbands, but nope. The only downside to this was on the weekends I was lost when it came to putting an outfit together.
4. Everyone was equal
There wasn't a girl wearing Micheal Kors boots or strutting around in the newest most expensive Lululemon leggings. Everyone was equal, everyone looked the same. Some may say that you can't express who you are while wearing a uniform, but I think thats where the real you comes out because you're on an equal level with everyone and your personality is the first thing they notice, not your choice of clothing.
5. I was always comfortable
I could have slept in my uniform. It was four years broken into so it had to be. I wore my skirt with my most comfortable shorts underneath, a sports bra, and a polo that might as well been a pj shirt. It was just comfortable, simple as that.
6. Fashion wasn't on my mind
I wasn't worried about impressing anyone. I didn't sit in class thinking about whether people were thinking about my outfit and judging me. I was the most me I could. No I didn't express myself with my clothes, but I don't think anyone ever truly needs to. High school was time where I needed to grow as a person and learn, I didn't need to think about what I was wearing and if it was the best of the best.
Wearing a uniform may have made me look like everyone else, but it made my personality come through. Clothes don't define you.
