Why I Will Miss Having Barack Obama As President

On Friday, President Donald Trump was officially sworn into office. For some people, this was a joyous day. For others, not so much. Whether you are happy that Trump is president or not, I know that there are some people who will really miss having Barack Obama as our president.

When Barack Obama was sworn into office in 2008, there were a lot of people who wanted him gone. People did not like him for a million reasons and, at first, I was not too fond of him either. But, over the years, I have grown to love Obama and what he stands for.

He has done so much for this country and I am thankful for everything that he has accomplished for this country. He was not only our first black president but he has also lived a life that has been scandal free. He is an advocate for women's rights, even reproductive rights like the abortion issue. He founded the Affordable Care Act, which has given a lot of people the chance to get the healthcare that they need. He helped capture and kill Osama Bin Laden. He signed the Claims Resolution Act, which gave black and Native American farmers the loans and resources they have deserved for years now. He helped the US and Cuban relations become better than they were before. He helped the legalization of same-sex marriage happen, which was a life-changing moment for the LGBTQ community. He had the most diverse administration in history. He signed the Hate Crimes Prevention Act, which made it illegal to hurt anyone based on their sexual orientation or their gender. And the list could go on forever.

Not only has he done so much for America, but he seems like an all around caring person in general. The way he acts with his family and other people he meets shows the kind of person he is. His love for his wife shows every time there are together. His love for his daughters shows every time they are together. And his love for this country shows every single time he speaks. He is accepting of everyone and doesn't exclude anyone based on their skin color, gender or sexual orientation. He was the president that America needed and he successfully fulfilled his duties as President of the United States.

Some people believe that he did nothing for our country, but it clearly shows that he did a lot. He has a love for this country like no one else has. He has helped this country become greater than it once was. He picked up the pieces that George Bush left when he left office. He fixed the mistakes that were made. I will miss him for a million reasons and I hope that he still stays in the public eye. I am just hoping that President Trump is able to be just as amazing as Barack Obama was in office.

5 Things To Do That Are Better Than Writing A Paper

Don't waste your time trying to write that paper when there are so many more interesting things you could be doing.

Writing a paper is never fun and is rarely rewarding. The writer's block, the page requirement, be specific, but don’t summarize, make sure you fixed any grammatical errors, did you even use spellcheck? and analyze, analyze, analyze.

Papers can be a major pain. They take up so much time and effort that by the end of the process you hate yourself and you hate the professor for making life so difficult. Questions of your existence start roaming in your mind. Am I even cut out for college if I can’t write a single paper? Am I even capable of taking care of myself if I lack the energy to open my laptop and start typing?

I can barely remember back when I was the only child. Most would say it’s because it is extremely difficult to remember things as a toddler but I would say it's because I was bored until my sister came along. My mother always says how important the "sister bond" is and with every year that passes I realize how right she is. Instead of writing a novel about all of the wonderful things there are about having a sister I decided to list a few of them instead.

It is the time of our lives that we are beginning to enter the adult world and most of us, if not all of us, have no idea what we are doing. It's like starting a video game, but skipping the tutorial. We're all just running around aimlessly hoping we accidentally do something right that moves us along the right path. Now that graduation has just happened, or is right around the corner for some of us, it's time to start thinking about how we are going to take care of ourselves once we are on our own.

If you’re anything like me, you love a good cup of coffee. My coffee always comes from Starbucks; I refuse to drink it from anywhere else. Over the years, it’s become one of my biggest addictions. College involves a whirlwind of emotions, whether it’s from the stress of an assignment (or twenty), or from fighting with your roommate. It can be overwhelming at times and it’s important to take a step a back and calmly think things over. Maybe gain some perspective.
