Why Western Massachusetts Loves The Big E

It is not fall until the Big E comes around in September to West Springfield in Western Massachusetts. Everyone in the western parts of the state look forward to this 3 week fair and everything that it has to offer. Even people from surrounding states come to have fun, eat food, and spend ridiculous amounts of money. Why does everyone love the Big E? Here's why:

The Food: The CrazyZ burger, cream puffs, fried dough, french fries, Maine baked potatoes... the list goes on and on. During the 3 weeks of the Big E, it's time to put aside diets and eat whatever you want. This year there is fried macaroni and cheese, apple/caramel/whipped cream topped mini donuts, and maple syrup with bacon on fried dough. Be sure to try everything you smell! Trust me, it will be hard!

The Rides and Games: I have never been a huge ride fan, and normally stay out of Midway, BUT if you are someone who likes to be twirled around and around be sure to take a walk through!

The Vendors: There are about three buildings filled with vendors. You can find anything from cowboy boots, mattresses, pools and hot tubs, and even as seen on tv products being demonstrated live! You won't miss anything, because vendors line the pathways as well.

Concerts: A fair wouldn't be a fair without some entertainment. There are concerts that are free during the day and there are also concerts that you can pre-pay and order tickets for beforehand. If you printed out your concert tickets, it also includes free admission into the Big E as well! There are other shows too, that are different every year. Taking a break inside the circus tent is a must as well. It is a great chance to get off your feet and watch some amazing acts.

No Limitations: You can go once or you can go every day the Big E is open for. If you enjoy the Big E so much, definitely invest in a seasons pass. It is worth it if you go over 3 times.

Fall Time: The Big E is how those from Western Mass know its fall!

City Days: Agawam day. Westfield Day. Chicopee day. On these days, students in public schools get vouchers to receive free tickets after a certain time. These days are very popular for friends meeting up with each other, and so family's can save money on entrance fees.

Date Night: What better place to go on a date then the Big E. Go eat food, play games, ride rides, take pictures in front of the stage or professional ones inside photo booths. Lots of fun for any couple!

If you have gone every year or if it is your first time going, have fun!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
