Why We Should All Be Like Benson

For anyone who has ever watched Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, you're probably aware that Olivia is basically the biggest bad-ass on television. The first thing that comes to my mind when I think of her is a superhero. She's fearless, incredibly witty and strong; not to mention she always looks good while doing it. I mean honestly, if I could get a pep talk from any television character it would definitely be Olivia Benson. Not to mention, I'd love for her to teach me some of her crazy moves to fight off the bad guys.

1. She doesn't care what anyone thinks of her.

This is something we could all take a lesson in. Benson knows that she is hardcore, and many people may think she's a bitch. But who cares? She also knows she's a total badass and could not care less about how anyone else sees's her, especially any of those low life perps (it's all about the lingo).

2. She always knows the right thing to say.

Whether it's a witty comeback or just throwing some shade, she always has the best insults (for the worst kind of people.) We always want to sound just like Benson when the right moment comes, but we never do.

3. She's proud of what she does.

4. She's crazy intimidating and has no shame.

Benson totally defies the typical women stereotype. I mean, according to some people, we're supposed to be submissive and polite. But that's not Benson. She's the polar opposite of submissive and isn't afraid to stand up to those who need to be put in their place.

5. She handles and composes herself like a champ.

I mean I can be a serious mess after a math test, and Benson deals with the scum of the earth and still manages to be a rock for everyone. That doesn't mean she never has her moments, because after all she is a (real) human. But even when she does have a small meltdown, she is always totally composed and keeps pushing through.

6. She has a soft side that makes us want to hug her.

Probably the most underrated side of Benson is that she is so caring, and can be a huge softy. Considering this is the exact opposite of what she is while fighting crime, it's so refreshing to see her really care for a victim. I never know if I want to just get up and clap when she gives a pep talk, or if I want to go find her and give her a hug for being so amazing. Most likely the latter, but I think I'd get arrested for that.

Keep doing you Benson, you are a hero.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
