Pets Are The Best

Why We Need Animals In Our Life
Maya Belter

Growing up, I always had animals. Whether it be a fish or a dog there was always some type of critter in the house. Growing up with animals has helped me through rough times and has been some of the best time spent of my life. Unfortunately, there is a time when you have to say goodbye to your pets and that could be the most heartbreaking thing a person can experience. However, we should not let our fear of loss deter us from letting these beautiful creatures into our heart and into our homes.

Here are 5 reasons why you need an animal in your life.

1. They love you unconditionally.

Your pet will always be there for you even if you get mad at them sometimes. Dogs and cats will force themselves on you and make you feel their love. People may come and go, but your pets will always need you. The joy in a dog's eyes when you come home after a long day is something to be cherished. Animals do not care if you are having a bad hair day or if your skin is acne-ridden, they will still think you are beautiful especially when you're holding a treat in your hand.

2. They enjoy the simple things in life.

Animals enjoy the simple things in life whether it be a walk in the park or a new toy in their cage. Your pets never complain. They eat the same food every day without hesitation and are grateful just to be around you.

3.They are good entertainment.

Animals can do the strangest things. Cats, for instance, make it their civic duty to run from one end of the house to the other for no reason at all. They also enjoy talking to themselves when they think no one is home. Dogs, on the other hand, are always excited no matter what you say to them just as long as you use the right tone.

4. They are beneficial to your health.

Dogs can be beneficial to your health. If your dog is getting exercise then so are you. Your pet can keep you active and healthy. According to the Northwest Memorial Hospital, "as long as you are the one holding the leash, you'll reap the rewards, which can include losing-- or at least maintaining-- weight." National institute of health conducted a study that showed that more than 2,000 adults that were dog owners were less likely to become obese.

5. They are cute.

It is often that I find people who believe that their pet is the cutest animal of its kind whether it be dog, cat, rodent, or reptile. Who wouldn't love coming home to a face that is the cutest that you have ever seen. A face that brightens when it sees you and is always sad to see you go.

Animals are the most beautiful creatures. They provide so much selflessness to the people they care about. If you or anyone you know is thinking about getting a pet convince yourself or them to get a pet. It does not have to be a dog or a cat, but if it is ADOPT people. Animals in shelters deserve the love they have been waiting for. Every animal deserves a loving home where you will cherish them as much as they cherish you.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
