17 Things About NYC That You Low-Key Love
Natasha Fradkin

So I grew up in New York City, and there is a lot that I can say I hate-- or at least really annoy me-- about this city. However, I still live here and chose to do so for college. However, if I really think about it, all those things that I hate, make up the city that I love.

1. The “dirty water” hot dogs

We all know that the water is mostly clean, and really, when you are running through the streets, you’ll burn the calories off anyway. It's a major part of NYC, and you have to experience it.

2. The overly-salty pretzels

Pay the extra three dollars and get yourself that bottle of water. You know that pretzel tastes good and will fill you up for class or the rest of your walk.

3. The gross smell of garbage

Fine, in the middle of the summer with humidity it’s pretty gross, but the rest of the year you don't really smell it.

4. The smell of the horses in central park

Yeah, that one is pretty bad, and so is the way they treat the animals.

5. Almost getting hit by a taxi every other street

You’re not a New Yorker until this has happened to you. You also know deep down that they won’t actually hit you.

6. Feeling like you’re gonna vomit any time you get into a cab … both from the driving and the price

Yes. It’s part of living in this city. It sucks, but you also know that thrill of making it out alive and with your hot dog and pretzel still in your tummy.

7. The awesome mood of a businessman on a hot subway

Hey, maybe he’s having a worse day than you. Take it and uplift yourself.

8. The buildup of garbage after a blizzard

Yeah well, the garbage truck couldn't drive in said blizzard. Can’t do anything about it, or the garbage truck preventing you from getting to school on time. But if you look at it with a kind eye, it kind of looks like a really pretty mountain of snow.

9. Being sprayed by the pesky street cleaner during or after a rainstorm

Yes, it sucks, but it's a good excuse to not go to work or class.

10. You can never escape from a Starbucks on every corner

Coffee. Is. ALWAYS. Accessible.

11. The crowd in front of Fairway every day that blocks the whole street

There's a reason why it’s always there. That supermarket has literally anything and everything.

12. The tourists in Times Square

We say we hate them, but really, we love how enthusiastic they are about the city. But, yes, they are annoying.

13. The hype about the empire state building

As much as they overcharge, it is a pretty spectacular view.

14. The hype about shopping on Fifth Avenue, or breakfast at Tiffany’s

You have to do it once, and it’s pretty cool if you think about it.

15. Almost breaking an ankle walking because the streets are low key falling apart

On the bright side, the urgent care facilities keep popping up.

16. The pesky people that always try to stop you and ask, “are you interested in supporting..”

Just ignore them.

17. Watching those who get stuck talking to those people because they were accidentally interested

Or don't, and listen to the poor person stuck talking to them when they really have to pee.

Christmas Tree

Now that Halloween is over, it's time to focus on the Holiday Season. Don't get me wrong, I think Thanksgiving is great and can't wait for it, but nothing gives me greater joy than watching Freeform's 25 Days of Christmas, lighting peppermint scented candles, decking the halls, and baking gingerbread cookies. So while we approach the greatest time of the year, let's watch the 15 best Christmas movies of all time.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

Being pre-med is quite a journey. It’s not easy juggling school work, extracurricular activities, volunteering, shadowing, research, and MCAT prep all at the same time. Ever heard of “pain is temporary, but GPA is forever?” Pre-meds don’t just embody that motto; we live and breathe it. Here are 10 symptoms you’re down with the pre-med student syndrome.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
