Hillary Clinton is the Democratic nominee for President of the United States. As the race for President continues to heat up, we're seeing more and more members of the Republican Party endorse Clinton because they don't see Trump as a viable option and we've even seen many former Bernie supporters endorse her as well, such as the prolific writer, Shaun King and many others.
Now, I personally don't see Trump as a viable option for President either, but I'm seriously left wondering if I can trust Clinton to do all she says she wants to do. When I took the "ISideWith" quiz recently, my results showed that I agree with about 88 percent of Clinton's platform, a decent amount compared to when I took it over a year ago (if I remember correctly, it was in the low 70th percentile then). The thing though about this quiz is that it's all based off of what the candidate says they will do and we have no way or completely predicting what they will do if they do become president.
We all remember that Obama promised to close Guantanamo Bay, but it's still open isn't it? It's hard for a president to do everything they want to do, I know that. They have a Congress and a House that will either help their plans go through or that will completely block them. It's the basic system of checks-and-balances, but there are times when we know that the president didn't even try to do something they claimed to have wanted to do.
With the recent primary, Clinton has even changed much of her platform to try and sway Bernie voters to her side. The real question is, is she going to go through with it and help create a progressive America?
In the recent weeks, the DNC Leak proved all along that the Democratic Party was basically planning to anoint Clinton. After that, it was all downhill for them. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the DNC Chair at the time, stepped down after the DNC leak proved that she was the epicenter of election fraud and corruption within the DNC. What happened next baffled many; nearly as soon as she stepped down, she was hired to the Clinton campaign.
I'm sorry, but that reeks of loyalty despite corruption. And now, Schultz is still running to hold her office against her rival, Tim Canova, a progressive who has been endorsed by Bernie Sanders. Clinton has even stopped by Florida to campaign for Schultz.
This alone, shows Clinton seemingly allowed election fraud to benefit her and then continued to support the person who helped her win the election despite evidence that said person helped rig the primaries.
Obviously, rigging the primaries is horrible, but at this point, it seems like nothing can be done about it and Clinton will continue her campaign to become president. So, with all this behind us, let's take a look at her platform. Clinton has adopted many aspects of Bernie's platform, that she at one point denounced, such as universal healthcare. She even claims to oppose the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), something she used to adamantly support and what President Obama is pushing for now.
It's not uncommon for Clinton to switch positions on things either, she's very well-known for changing her position on same-sex marriage in 2013 from against it, to for it. She's changed positions a lot this election year alone, and a lot throughout her life and that leaves people wondering how strong her actual values really are and if she just supports whatever is popular at the time.
On top of all this, many people don't believe she's as transparent as most people think candidates should be. Granted, she has tried to be more transparent, she even recently released her tax returns, but many people don't believe that's enough and want her to do more, such as release her Wall Street transcripts.
Look, I can go on and on about Clinton's changed platform and all the alleged cases of election fraud in the primaries, but we have to sit down and realize that she very well may be our next president. I'm still an undecided voter, and like I said earlier, I can't predict with any certainty how much of her own platform Clinton will push for. I support the majority of her platform, 88 percent of it, and many people who are left-leaning will support her platform, but they, like me, just don't know if they can trust her to do what she says she will.
She's flip-flopped on her policies historically, she's proudly endorsed a person who worked to rig the primaries in her favor, and she just has a long history of scandals that I'm not even gonna bother to bring up. Best case scenario I see is that she becomes President and she actually tries to implement the progressive part of her platform and everything is all good and dandy. Worst case scenario, she flip-flops entirely and continues to please the vultures on Wall Street. It doesn't matter if you support Clinton or not, that's a risk many of us are absolutely horrified about, and the sad thing is, I might just end up voting for her because I'm more scared of what Donald Trump could do.
