The instant I stepped foot on campus at Manchester High School, I knew that my future had begun. Middle school was filled with zany hormones and a lack of effort, however, High School was the key to the entire rest of my life. Even at 14 years old, I knew that Manchester would provide my future at my fingertips- I just needed to try. From then on, I’ve had a thriving passion to go to a University and earn a degree in Education. Presently, at 17 years old, I can approve the thoughts of my former self to be true. Manchester High School has been there for me the entire way. I was able to challenge and express myself, and even make long lasting memories- with an entire senior year ahead, I can only imagine the possibilities. My future feels closer than ever, and I can say that I am extremely proud of the things I’ve accomplished.
I mainly want to go to college because I want to teach. I have had so much experience in working with children that I am absolutely positive that it is something that I will spend the rest of my life doing. I have taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School at my church since I was in the 8th grade. However, the best experience I’ve had teaching was last year, during my internship at O.B. Gates. Every other day, I would see the smiling faces of my second grade students, and my heart would instantly melt. With everything that went on last year, from my mother being sick to my dog dying, that class instantly patched up my heart from the moment I walked in. Although they were my little therapists, the greatest form of zeal that they provided me with was their progression throughout the year. They all matured in some form or fashion; some kids learned how to read on level, others were even recommended for the Gifted program. Whatever the case, I am entirely grateful to call them my first class. They will always be the reason I go into education, and I hope they carry that in their hearts.
Wherever I choose to go after this fateful senior year, I know that I will provide them with my absolute best. Just as I did when I entered High School, at 18 years old, I will step foot onto campus and know that the university will have the key to my future, I only have to strive for it. I will be the first of my intermediate family to go away to a four-year institution, and I intend to honor my family because of it. Once I choose a school, it will become my home, and I will put everything that I possibly can into that home. Manchester made me who I am today, but college will mold me into who I am for the rest of my life.
