Stargazing is one of my favorite things in the world. I have gone outside and laid down, looking at the stars in many different states. The result has been that the sky is just as beautiful on the west coast as it is on the east coast, and there are just as many stars visible on an island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean as there are in the middle of a massive continent.
There are courses offered in "Politicizing Beyonce" and "Wasting Time on the Internet," and my personal favorite, "The Sociology of Miley Cyrus." However, there are very few, if any, colleges that offer courses purely in stargazing. Most schools have classes that focus on astronomy, however, that is significantly different than a class solely dedicated to stargazing.
Astronomy classes focus on learning the constellations and considering the different ways the universe came into being. While a class in stargazing would be purely for the enjoyment and appreciation of the sky. In a way, stargazing is comparable to a course in art appreciation or music appreciation.
Stargazing is something that puts everything in perspective. As Shakespeare would say, "My soul is in the sky," and stargazing proves that point. It makes problems seem so small in comparison, and there is no time when it is easier to see the beauty in God's creation. Stargazing puts you in place to realize how little you are in comparison to the universe and how much beauty there is in the world.
A class in stargazing would be relaxing, beautiful, and definitely the first class I would register for any semester.
