Valentine’s Day is this week, and gift giving is in full swing. Somewhere around $18.2 billion will be spent on the holiday worldwide.
Although the whole idea and notion of Valentine’s Day is all well in good, why do we need one specific day to express love to our SOs?
I’m not going to pretend I've never partaken in the consumer bias towards this holiday, because I have. Last year, I spent about $100 on the person I was dating at the time.
I get the idea. People love to spoil those they love. But why choose one specific day? Shouldn’t you let that person know that you love them everyday of your relationship?
It’s healthy to express your affection for someone. If you only do it one day of the year, what’s the point?
I’m not saying buy them things all the time, because materials don’t exactly express love. What I'm saying is make your love and affection known all the time, whether it be through text, a phone call or even face to face.
Now that I’m done bashing the idea of the holiday, I have to admit, I love it. I love the whole “lovey dovey” aspect of the whole day. I enjoy seeing couples go out with each other, smiling and being happy.
I hope that your Valentine’s Day is full of love and joy. But as a reminder, don’t forget to tell and show that special someone you love them every other day of the year too.
