Why USA Needs to Relax about Donald Trump

First off, this is no way of me saying I support Donald Trump winning the presidential election or saying I don’t support it either, that is a opinion which I will keep to myself. The biggest news this past week was obviously Donald Trump being elected the 45th president of The United States of America. While the nomination is obviously having its reactions, the bottom line is that President Trump is now on the path to try to fix things that he believes needs to be addressed.

There already have been various protests resulting in destruction of property, arrests, and unfortunately more violence which needs to be stopped because all its doing is making us as a nation look pathetic quite frankly. I am all for the citizens of this great country using their right to protest and speak their mind but for those who are doing horrible things like committing violence I ask you what does that change? This election was perhaps the most watched, controversial, and yet surprising ones we have ever seen and will be remembered for years to come. With all of the events that have occurred after Donald Trump being elected president here is my top five things that we as a nation need to focus on going forward.

5. R-E-L-A-X

If you have read my articles in the past on here or The College Tailgate, you should know by now that I am a die-hard Chicago fan. So you should know that for me to quote Packers Quarterback Aaron Rodgers isn’t exactly the easiest for me, “Five letters here just for everybody out there in Packer-land: R-E-L-A-X," The reason I say this is because we as a nation need to calm down because President Trump hasn’t even moved to The White House yet and lets be completely honest it didn’t matter who ended up the president because there would have been some kind of negative reaction towards that person whether it’s for their views on immigration or their email history. It was always going to end with people revolting.

4. Follow Trump’s and Obama’s advice

What I like so far is the fact that Donald Trump and President Obama have both talked about how we need to focus on bringing this nation back together. I personally feel that’s not just something that needs to happen in politics but in the whole country overall. There is clearly a divide right now in our country which needs to change. This is something that WE need to fix, not Donald Trump because if we all come together as a nation we can truly call ourselves the greatest country in the world and not have any of these problems that are occurring.

3. Is Trump any different than prior presidents?

I am confident in saying I do not support Donald Trump on his views of certain religions and races in the United States, I also don’t support the way he has talked about or his experiences with women in the past. However, I ask you as a reader to sit back in a comfy chair, pour yourself a hot cup of coffee, turn on some relaxing music and think to yourself when was the last time a president actually accomplished what their main focus of their campaign was? It’s reality my friends, politics like to get people’s hopes up in order to get votes no nominee ever accomplishes everything they say they want to do. It also doesn’t help when thousands of people went out of their way to get up and go vote for things like a popular dead gorilla. Who honestly thinks that Trump will make Mexico pay for any wall?

2. Love not Hate

As I stated earlier, I support our right to speech and protest something we don’t believe is right in this great country. What I don’t support is people doing horrific acts like violence or destroying things because they feel it will get their point across more. All that does is make people look like fools and end up in a court room with pending charges. It’s honestly pathetic to me that a week prior people in Chicago we’re all united celebrating the Chicago Cubs World Series victory to less then a week later people are attacking one another just because of their disapproval of who got elected. The bottom line is that we need to find a way to stop all the hate that is occurring in this country and come together to be truly united.

1. Let’s see what happens

Obviously the biggest elephant in the room is waiting to see what happens with Donald Trump being elected and what he actually ends up doing. I honestly expect President Trump to surprise people with some of the things he changes or creates in a positive matter; I just hope that some of the controversial things he said don’t actually come into fruition. We as a nation need to as with any nominee be patient and wait to see what happens, its honestly going to be something that either ends good or bad as with any president but this nominee will be one of the most interesting to watch. However, we all as a nation need to R-E-L-A-X and see if President Trump will indeed, "Make America Great Again".

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
