Why To Be Single And PROUD Of It

The holidays have come and passed, which means that all the single people out there finally get a break from the question "So, any special people in your life?" The question is usually sincere and innocent but also makes you want to pull your hair out. It is the only thing that matters in one's life is their relationship status. I am not sure if the world has noticed, but most men and women have a lot more going for them than the amount of people that are lusting after them.

Here are 5 reasons that one should be proud of being single.

1. You have become your own person.

There is nothing wrong with being dependent on someone else, but there is also something extremely satisfying about being on your own. You don't have to do things you don't want to do, you don't have to like things that don't interest you, and you can live a life that pleases you, and only you.

2. You can flirt with whomever, whenever you want.

There are pretty women and men everywhere. How nice is it that you can flash that award winning smile to anyone and start up a conversation? You can go on dates with multiple people and test the waters a bit.

3. You don't have to have extra drama in your life.

Not every relationship is drama filled, but if you have seen my generation of relationships then you have noticed that it is a bunch of bullshit. Men tell women what to do, girls get angry about men hanging out with other women. A reply has to be within 15 minutes and if your contact name isn't something cute then it is world war 3 in this bitch. An unhealthy relationship is like a spider, always within 10 feet of you.

4. You can plan for your future in the way you want

It is extremely nice to be able to figure out how you want your life to be without having to cater it to someone else. You can travel where you want when you want. You can live where you want, because of whatever. You can spend your time how you want and you can plan your future around your wants and needs. No someone else's.

5. You make yourself happy.

It will always be comforting to have a special someone in your life, nobody can deny that, but there is something so special about being your own source of happiness. Knowing that nobody is allowed to take credit for your happiness other than yourself. You decided to be your own person and take control of your life. You never relied on someone else to make life better, you made it better on your own. That is commendable.

Now, don't get me wrong. There is nothing wrong with being in a relationship, but nothing is wrong with being single. Both lives have so much to offer in different ways. Just remember that your life isn't meant to be spent waiting for someone else. Go live it. Being single isn't being unhappy, it is being okay by yourself.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way.
