To The Nurses I've Had Before
By: Cecily Lovas

While the doctor diagnoses and knows how to treat me, they don't truly know what to do. They don't know the side effects, the machines, or even see what I'm going through most of the time. But the nurses do. They're there all day watching me react to the medicines the doctors pile into my body, and do it with the kindest manners that make me feel right at home.

While being a regular patient at the hospital isn't ideal, I've made great connections with the nurses who have helped me. I never feel judged or uncared for. Each nurse is like another family member who makes me feel safe and loved.

Michelle, thank you for singing with me every time we access my port.

Megan, thank you for hugging me and crying with me when we rang the bell signifying my last radiation treatment.

Steve, thank you for praying with me before bed for my health and wellbeing.

Amanda, thank you for feeling like a sister and always coming to chat with me even if I wasn't your patient.

Shane, thank you for being the first nurse I met on this journey and reassuring me that everything was going to be okay.

Becky, thank you for holding my hand all the way to the OR before my terrifying brain surgery.

My list could go on forever as I am so grateful for the nurses who have changed my life forever and have truly inspired me. All of you have made lasting impressions that will always be with me like a handprint on my heart.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

birthday party

My birthday has never been my favorite holiday. I've found that I'm more excited to celebrate my friends' and family members' birthdays more than my own. I don't like being the center of attention, so I usually celebrate over dinner with a small group of family and friends. This way, I can enjoy myself naturally without feeling like I have to entertain everyone and make sure they are satisfied. In the past when I've had large parties, I was so nervous that people weren't perfectly content that I didn't enjoy myself at my own celebration.

College Informations

Most of us have already started the spring semester, and for those of you who haven't started yet, you suck.

It seems like coming back from winter break wouldn't really be a break all things considered, since we all come back to school and pick up right where we left off. We know exactly what to expect, yet we're unprepared every single time.

I'm serious

There are tons of unisex names that are popular: Taylor, Alex, Bailey, etc. There are also numerous names that are used for both sexes, but they’re not seen as “unisex” yet. People are slowly becoming accustomed to the dual use of these names, but for the most part, in their minds they associate certain names with certain sexes. And that leaves those of us with these names in many awkward situations.
