#NotMyPresident, protesting, negativity, hate. All of these things plus more have been filling my Newsfeeds ever since Donald Trump secured enough votes in the Electoral College to win the Presidency. This is why I have tried to stay away from social media ever since November 8, because negativity leaves a bad taste in my mouth, and social media is full of it.
It is not just coming from solely one candidate's supporters, but overwhelmingly from both. On one hand, Hillary supporters are outraged that such a 'sexist, racist, evil' man could have won, and are having trouble realizing that not everyone gets a trophy, sometimes you just lose. On the other hand, Trump supporters are telling Hillary supporters to just accept defeat, in a not-so-nice way.
All of a the sudden, everyone has a Doctorate of Political Science from an Ivy League school. They are exercising their First Amendment right to Freedom of Speech via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. They are calling their family members, talking with friends, drilling their opinions of the election into the minds of anyone who is willing to listen. I have read my fair share of these said posts, and it is sad how many of them are so extremely disrespectful. If you are going to share, by all means, share. Please just share in a respectful way in order for people to respect you back.
Why does it have to be this way? Why are people filled with so much cruelty and hate? America needs to stand together. Wishing for Mr. Trump to fail at the Presidency is asking for America to fail also, and that, to me, is extremely disrespectful.
So, I'm taking a break from social media for a little while, or at least until all of this election hoopla dies down. Maybe my spirits will stay more lifted, and it will give me more time to reflect on what an amazing country America is, and how lucky we all are to be here, without all of the hate bringing me down.
