On Saturday, Howie Roseman added another masterful trade to his resume, shipping quarterback Sam Bradford to the Minnesota Vikings for a 2017 first round pick and a conditional 2018 4th round pick that could potentially turn into a 2nd. To some, this trade is viewed as a complete panic move by Rick Spielman, in the wake of their starting quarterback Teddy Bridgewater suffering a devastating knee injury that puts his 2016 season out of question and possibly, his future in jeopardy.
But, in my opinion, the trade was great for both sides.
The Eagles traded the farm for the second pick in the 2016 NFL Draft to get their franchise Quarterback, Carson Wentz, giving up a slue of picks to Cleveland. Now with the Bradford trade, the Eagles get back into the first round this year, and get a pick back also in 2018, making the Carson Wentz trade look A LOT less pricey. Eagles get their QB, and some of their picks back. Genius.
So how did Minnesota win?
The Vikings to many were considered to be a Super Bowl contender before Teddy Bridgewater suffered a devastating non contact knee injury that all but destroyed the Vikings hopes of contending for a championship. Without a Quarterback, it's nearly impossible to compete in the NFL and the Vikings knew that.
Though the price was high, Sam Bradford you could argue may be even BETTER then Bridgewater, as coaches and GM's have been enamored with his potential since he came into the league. This puts the Vikings right back to where they need to be. In the hunt for a championship, and also gives Philadelphia a little breathing room cap wise, and they get 2 high picks back that they had to give up to get their guy.
Only time will tell who won this trade, but in my eyes, there were NO losers.
