Getting to do theatre and being a part of a cast and crew is such a privilege. From everyday rehearsals, to late night techs, sweating in your costume, hearing the orchestra play your shows score for the first time, to your final bow as a cast together. A special bond is created, one that only you as a cast member get to have.
Every time you're in a show, whether it's every few months or for years at a time, it holds a special place in your heart. Sometimes you don't always have an opportunity to be a part of a production, so when you get that chance you savor every little minute of it. The journey it took for me to get there and where it ended up was worth the effort. When you strike the set and shed a few tears realizing that this is actually it and you won't get to do the choreography you practiced for hours in your room or singing the harmonies you sung over and over again to perfect everyday.
Before the closing performance of the most recent production I was apart of our director reminded us to never to a moment on the stage for granted because you never know when it will be your last show you will get to be apart of. You leave it all out on the stage. Leave it all out there even if you mess up a step, miss a line, or your voice cracks all that matters is that you are having a good time.
There is truly nothing like being in a show and when that ends it leaves an empty hole in your heart that can only be filled by being apart of another show. It's a cycle that never ends. Having post show depression just shows how much you appreciate and care for something and to miss something so much you shouldn't take any experience for granted.
Theatre brings people from all walks of life together, it brings you together with people you may have not otherwise have met and changes you for the better.
