A few weeks ago, I wrote about 10 fantastic beasts everyone will love. In the movie, Newt Scamander, who is known as a expert in the field of magizoology (Magical Animals) talks about how he has saved the animals in his case and how he takes care of them, and is working on a book to educate his fellow witches and wizards on how to care for these creatures, and why they should be saving them and not be scared of them.
I believe that the world should be more like Newt Scamander. We need to educate each other on the environment and the animals that live and share the world as their home with us. One of my favorite quotes from the movie is, "We’re going to recapture my creatures before they get hurt. They’re currently in alien terrain surrounded by millions of the most vicious creatures on the planet; humans." Newt calls humans the most vicious creatures on the plant. He is right, because of human activities 99% of currently threatened species are at risk primarily those driving habitat loss, introduction of exotic species, and global warming. Many wonderful creatures are endangered because of humans; creatures like the Bengal tiger.
With a little over 2.500 left in the wild, they are quickly going extinct because there has been a high demand for the poaching of the tiger has gone up. These creatures matter a lot - this tiger subspecies is at the top of the food chain in the wild. But tigers are also a vital link in maintaining the rich diversity of nature. When tigers are protected, we save so much more. For example, with just one tiger, we protect around 25,000 acres of forest. These ecosystems supply both nature and people with fresh water, food, and health. Even Creatures like the Great White shark are starting to become threatened - their numbers are starting to fall because they are being hunted by man for their fins and teeth and even for a trophy from sport fishing.
You can see a list of endangered species here. All these creatures play a part in our world and keeping everything balanced. An unbalanced ecosystem is how death can happen. Education is key when it comes to saving our planet and the creatures that call it home, even us humans. Learning more about these creatures and their homes are very easy - take a trip to your local zoo! Many zoos have breeding programs and will try to save many of the species that have made the list and it's proven to work. Creatures like the bald eagle and the giant panda have come off the list because of our work to keep the protected and with the help of breeding programs. So I think we should all be a little more like Newt when it comes to our wonderful creatures that we share this planet with.
