Imagine an event so big that it attracts the eyes of everyone in the world. An event where everyone comes together to support others in perfect harmony. An event where the problems of the world seem to disappear for a brief moment. Does such an event actually exist? I can enthusiastically inform that yes, such an event does exist. This event only comes around every four years, so you have to be sure to enjoy it when it does come around. This event is known as the Olympics.

The Olympics have been around for over 3,000 years! They originated in ancient Greece and became the world's biggest sporting event, attracting people from all over the world. The Olympics were held every four years in Olympia between 8th century B.C. and 4th century B.C. in order to honor the mighty Greek god Zeus through tests of physicality. Although the Olympics can be historically traced back 3,000 years ago, the first modern day Olympics were held in 1896 in Athens, Greece. It featured 280 participants from 13 nations, competing in 43 events. This year, there are 11,488 athletes that will be competing in some type of Olympic event. The Olympics are being held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is the first time they have ever been hosted in South America!

The Olympics give everyone a chance to be a part of history and allow them to feel a sense of tradition. It is a common occurrence that more times than not something will happen at the Olympics that didn't happen at the last Olympics. Something such as a new record being broken, someone attempting something that has never been done before and new bragging rights. Anything can happen. That's the magic of it.

Not only does it allow you to be a part of history, it allows you to show your patriotism for your homeland, the country you come from. The Olympics put the entire population of a country behind the same country's best athletes. It brings out unreal patriotism. Fans will come to the games from all over the world. They will be fast to tell you about how great their country is and how their country is going to be the one to bring home the most gold medals. It might be one of the greatest events for humanity in terms of bringing people together. People just love the spirit of competition and are eager to support their country's athletes. In this age, there are not many events in the world that bring everyone together quite like the Olympics. Make sure you don't miss out! Be a part of history and cheer on your country!

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?
