Women have been fighting for equal rights since the late 1860s and somehow women are still having to fight for equality even 150 years later. As if women are not capable of a man can do.
A very big topic right now rising up in the media has been the Women's' National Soccer Team winning the World Cup for the fourth time in history. Yet, that is not what most people are talking about. The real thing about this huge win is that the women's' team has been way more successful than the men's' yet they only earn a fraction of what the men make.
After the US had won the 2015 World Cup, all 28 players of the US Women's National Team decided to file a lawsuit against the USSF in regards to gender discrimination. This lawsuit has sparked a lot of controversial topics in regards to women fighting for equal rights.
I surveyed a total of 97 people and 86 of then believed as though the US Women and the Men's team should be paid the same and the other 11 believed that they should keep the same salary. Some people that sided with the Women had a thing or two to say.
For example, Conor McGill; "The US Women's Soccer team put just as much work in as the US Men's Soccer team. They are far more accomplished then the US Men's team. Additionally, according to last years fiscal report the US Women's team made more money than the US men's team in revenue. Women generated $1.9million more in revenue than men's games from 2016 to 2018"
Also, Jordyn Wallhof who believed as though equal pay was just not enough, "Not only had the women's team won more championships and world cups than the men's, but they also bring in more viewers than the men's team. Equal pay sells the women a little short."
And on the other hand, they are some people that believe as though the women are being paid enough, or are even paid too much. Like Caden White, "The girls don't bring on as much money as the guys so they can't pay them more."
The US Women's Soccer Team isn't the only group of women that have been discriminated in regards to equal pay. "The median full-time female worker makes just 80.7 cents for every dollar her male counterpart makes." Even though it does vary from state to state, the gender wage gap is something that women have been struggling with many decades.
This is just the start of starting something much bigger like the end of the fight for equality not just in the professional field, but also in society. Because this is the year where women are going to no longer have to fight to have the same rights and privileges as their male peers.
