Many people say that voting in presidential elections is not worth it due to being only one person in a country of 320 million. There is also this thing called the electoral college which makes the state's decision on which candidate to vote for anyway. Your vote, however, is worth it. For most of us, we are finally old enough to vote for our country's new president, but it is more than just a president. You are voting to change your country for the better. You live here and you choose to live in this beautiful country, why not make a difference?
As college students, it is most likely our first time voting. I cannot be more excited to get my ballot and check which person I am going to vote for. Ever since the last election and then taking AP Government in high school, I have felt like once I turned 18 I could be apart of something so big and so moving. It is our democratic responsibility to vote, and it frustrates me that others around me see it as unnecessary or a waste of time.
As a citizen in this democratic country, it is up to all of us to see the change we want. Many people complain everyday about all sorts of things that the president and his colleagues make decisions on. Americans have a hard time understanding that they don't have to sit and complain if they do their part and go out and vote for the ultimate decision maker in this country.
You choose to live in this country, and it is so much harder to get up and move to another country than just taking the time to vote for the future leader of America. That is why I encourage you to learn more about all of the presidential candidates in the upcoming election, and think to yourself about how much potential change you can make by selecting a name on your ballot in November. It is one thing to vote, but it is a huge thing to vote intelligently. We all have different political ideologies from how we were raised and the experiences we have gone through. Take those beliefs and find the candidate who you most agree with and who you see being able to make the best decisions for the country you live in and love.
Whether it be by absentee or you go out and do it, please vote in this upcoming presidential election. There is a diverse group of candidates coming from all walks of life, and you have the power to choose the one that is most fit for the country you live in and the country you will raise a family in. You are one of 320 million people in this country, but you are a change maker. You are apart of something so big and so moving, so take full advantage of the upcoming opportunity you have in November.
