As "Gilmore Girls"fans lie in wait for the Netflix revival, there continues to be the popular debate over Rory Gilmore’s love life: Dean, Jess or Logan? So many people are focused on who Rory should end up with and who is the best guy for her, with the idea that whoever that is will be the guy she ends up with. However, that may not be the case. The show’s writers, Amy Sherman-Palladino and Dan Palladino, have written unexpected plots in the past that included Jess Mariano running away without telling Rory and Lorelai Gilmore breaking off her year-long engagement with Luke Danes after making an ultimatum. So, there is no way of knowing what they are planning.
While it is true that "Gilmore Girls"has a great deal of humorous dialogue, it is a "dramedy," so it will also most certainly have some difficult conflict in its revival. Because of this, the ending may not be happy for the main characters. In this case, Rory might not end up in the situation that is best for her.
Lorelai has not always been happy about Rory’s love life. From hiding in the grocery aisle spying on Dean Forester, to fighting with Rory about breaking up a marriage, Lorelai has done her best to try to help Rory out in her life. Arguably the hardest part of the show for fans was the period of time in season six when Rory and Lorelai were not speaking to each other. Rory had dropped out of Yale after stealing a yacht with her boyfriend, Logan Huntzberger, because Logan’s father told her she would never make it as a journalist. After she told this to her mother, Lorelai told Rory she was not allowed to drop out of Yale and thus the two fought for months.
An interesting part of the fight was that Rory and Lorelai did not reconcile until Jess told Rory she was not acting like herself, and Rory took a break from her relationship with Logan. Rory’s romantic relationships were so closely intertwined with her fight with Lorelai, to the point where they did not actually make up until she was away from Logan and his world. Based on this and Lorelai’s overall attitudes toward Logan, it is clear that she is not a big fan of Rory and Logan’s relationship. She did not approve of Rory’s final relationship with Dean or her relationship with Jess, either. However, Rory never put her education at risk for these other relationships. It was not until she dated Logan that she was willing to give up on her love of learning.
Information has been made public that Dean and Rory will not end up together, so now it has come to the question of Jess vs. Logan. Though Jess did not initially treat Rory well, he changed and helped her out when she most needed him. Logan was sometimes a great boyfriend to her, but he did nothing to help her when she had dropped out of Yale and stopped speaking to Lorelai. If Rory does end up with Logan, then it could greatly impact her close relationship with Lorelai. If dating him has lead Rory to pull away from her mother and quit school, maybe marrying him will really damage her relationship with Lorelai.
It will be interesting to see who, if anyone, Rory ends up with, and what that will mean for her and Lorelai. For now, though, all we can do is speculate until we know for sure.
