If you don't get excited when you see that ABC Family is airing "The Princess Diaries," then shut up. Based on Meg Cabot's genius book series, the movie brings to life every girl's dream of being Mia Thermopolis, princess of Genovia. The movie came out in 2001, but it still lives on in the hearts of many. Here are some reasons why "The Princess Diaries" will never get old.
Young Anne Hathaway.
Before she transformed into the queen of the red carpet and award shows, Anne played frizzy haired, awkward, and all around adorkable Mia. You can't help but root for her as she tries to balance the trials of high school with the duties expected of a princess.
Julie Andrews is actually queen.
Julie delivers probably one of the best lines in the movie: "A queen is never late. Everyone else is simply early." So the next time you stumble late into class, just remember, your peers are all peasants.
Mia and Lily are friend goals.
Even when Mia turns into a total brat, Lily still loves her. And her sass is on point.
It's very quotable.
"Me? A princess? Shut up!" and "Because you saw me when I was invisible," to name a few. It's not quite at "Mean Girls" status, but Tumblr is obsessed with the movie, so that means a lot.
San Francisco.
As someone who has been to San Fran can attest to, it's even more breathtaking in person. However, the movie does a good job of showing off the beautiful city.
The mustang scene.
Probably one of the most genuinely LOL scenes of the movie, Princess Mia's panic level is all of us at some point in life.
Michael and Mia 4ever.
Michael and Mia are the ultimate OTP. Don't argue with me. I still have yet to see the sequel because Michael is not in it. She sends him a pizza with M&Ms spelling out "sorry," for crying out loud. That's true love.
While these are just a few brief reasons to watch the movie, it really is a great throwback. Long live Princess Mia of Genovia.
