Being an outdoorsman, or perhaps an outdoors-woman, is more than just a hobby, it is a lifestyle. You may live inside in the sense that it is where you eat, sleep and find comfort. But it is not necessarily the place you should be living your life. People can find themselves deep in the mountainous terrains of the Rockies, floating down the Gulf coastlines, camped out the thick Redwood Forest or even just on the back patio of their suburban home. Calling nature "The Great Outdoors" is virtually an understatement.
You Can't Build Nature
Mankind has built the Empire State Building, the Sydney Opera House and the Great Wall of China. But mankind has not built the Great Canyon, the Great Barrier Reef and the Sahara Desert. Some of the world's most spectacular and phenomenal views are that of nature's finest. The Northern Lights and summer sunsets are not computer-generated, colorful projections that humans feature in the sky—they are the world's beauties. What's more beautiful, the neighborhood of brick and stucco homes or a blanket of freshly fallen snow on the canopy of a forest? Exactly.
Nature Is Good For The Soul
Long workdays, bills and to-do lists are almost impossible to run away from. The only place these things are not concerning is in nature. The Blue Jay living in a pine tree doesn't know a thing about writing weekly reports or filing taxes. When a person is able to spend time in the outdoors, they are given the opportunity to forget all of life's troubles. One of the most relaxing things you can do is to take a walk down a nature trail or to enjoy a Sunday afternoon picnic in an open field.
You Can't Get Actually Tan Inside
Of course, there are always tanning salons and spray tans, but that takes half of the fun out of getting your bronzed, glowing complexion! Nothing feels better than a warm spring or summer day where you can feel the sun's rays dancing on your skin. Save yourself from skin cancer and looking like a Cheeto! Go outside and get an authentic suntan!
The Smell
No Yankee Candle can exactly emulate the smell of yellow jasmines, pine needles or the salty ocean air. Each season has its own smell! The winter air is crisp, while the springtime is full of fresh blooming flowers and ferns. One of the world's best feelings is being able to walk outside, take a huge breath of air and smell nature's various perfumes.
The Best Sports Are Played Outside
You don't have to be an avid hiker or professional trailblazer to like being outside. Playing a pickup game of soccer or football is simple way to get out of your house without being in the most inward depths of the woods! Even if you aren't the most athletic or competitive, a neighborhood jog or swim in the local pool is always a solid alternative! Get out and get moving!
God Made Dirt And Dirt Don't Hurt
Some common excuses for not wanting to go out is "I don't want to get sweaty" or "what if I get dirty?" These are silly reasons to not enjoy the wide-open outdoors! Newsflash: this isn't the stone age! This is why we have showers. Next time you are worried about if you'll smell bad or sweat if you go outside, put on some extra deodorant, grab a handkerchief and go! I promise you won't regret it!
Nature is one of God's most remarkable gifts given to us. It has amazingly vast beauty and provides us with an outlet from our city and suburban lives. You can't find peace and serenity on a television or computer screen. Indoors provides protection, while the outdoors provides humans with a soul.
