Why The Olympics Are Important To Me

The time has finally come for 2016. No I'm not talking about the Cavs, I'm talking about The 2016 Rio Summer Olympics. The opening ceremony took place last night and while it was pretty long, it made me think about why the Olympics is more important than people think. Ever since I was little, I wanted to be an Olympic athlete (still do) I admired them, especially the equestrians. I can write an entire essay about why the equestrian sports should remain forever in the summer Olympics but here I'm talking about all sports that make up the Olympics, winter or summer.

The Olympics go way back and has only grown over the years with the fantastic opening ceremony, to the lighting of the torch, to the first day and to the last. We as the people who make up planet Earth are so lucky to experience the Olympics. Whether you're just watching from your living room, to actually competing, or a close supporter, the Olympics has done nothing but bring us closer together. The games inspire all of us to be healthy not only physically but mentally. The Olympics have also persuaded me to do my best in school and I think this year as a sophomore in college will continue to do so.

As we all know, the political system in the United States along with other countries isn't the greatest especially with the election around the corner, and not to mention the recent violence. The Olympics sort of makes us forget all of that. Of course I'm not saying we should disregard politics and recent violence, what I'm saying is that the Olympics let us appreciate what we have and how we really show our country our support. It doesn't matter what party you associate with, everyone is showing the same great support for our U.S athletes. The Olympics show that we can all come together rather than commit violence because we are only small beings in the universe. So why support violence when you can celebrate us coming together? The Paralympic Games are also a huge role this year. The Paralympics involve athletes with disabilities. These games are just as important as the Olympics because these athletes show that you can be an athlete even with disabilities.

Both games are important because they bring everyone together regardless of your shape, size or political view. So let's celebrate together!

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
